Does it matter who machines your barrel?

Hey guys,
I am looking for a Bartlein barrel for my AR-10. Precision quoted me 6 weeks and $1790 with gas block ( setup for my LMT)

Craddock is 10 months out

I found another place Falkor who has them in stock with no wait. They want sub $600

That being said, is it going to make a big difference to spend $1790 with precision or just get the other Bartlein and send it to D. Wilson?

Boy do I miss hawk hill barrels for gasguns.....ready to go.

I'd say send your bartie to someone who is willing to do the work. Worth a call to Drew at WAR. Haven't seen him in a while but he used to spin up killer gasgun barrels. His personal 6.5 creedmoor was absolutely smoking 140s.

I have Craddocks and they shoot spectacularly and I have just received a precision spun Bartlein and it shot really great last weekend ( waiting on a second). I didn’t know D. Wilson chambered barrels. Honestly I would take the precision ( now called Samurai) just because they do a great job and I don’t wait a year. That said D.Wilson does spectacular machine work and I trust them explicitly. Craddock and Precision are about the same cost. Not sure on what the D.Wilson cost plus barrel blank would be. Any of those three would turn out a great barrel.

I've got a GAP 10 from George in north Kansas City, it is a great shooting gun, check with them, GA Precision..............google is your friend.
Yeah Ga precision does good work as does Paul from the former Compass Lake. I am sure others will bring up White Oak and I am sure there are others. We are truly blessed with talented smith that turn out great barrels using the plethora of spectacular blanks we are blessed with.

I'm as guilty as the next guy in going down the pre-fit barrel rabbit hole. But pre-fits aside (they're kind of their own thing)... generally speaking, the guy who is free to do your barrel right now doesn't have a back log of work FOR A REASON. Most of us learn that lesson the hard way, eventually.

He did not show you all of his selections. When you add a fluted barrel, Lmt cuts, gas’s blocks, gas blocks, cerocoat, expedited delivery. It adds up, but they are worth it!

Yeah, the one I am waiting on is also an LMT cut with teardrop fluting, cerocoat, yadda yadda, was right up there. Last bartlein I priced out at Craddock was about the same price. D. Wilson does not publish a price for chambering but will I am sure, and I would bet when you include the blank would be right about the same price.

I'm guessing you are joking about if it matters who machines it. Yes. As a matter of fact, I'd bet an excellent machinist would be able to give you better results with a middle of the road blank than someone who isn't a known quantity might do with a barrel made of steel from Odin's forge.

Call me crazy - if you really want the Bart

1) consider getting a Craddock RTR, have them build it and you'll be up and running soon - I tested a new Craddock RTR 22 ARC and 6.8 SPC today, both shot lights out, less than 30 days round trip

2) When the Bart is ready, have them yank the RTR and sell it or throw it in a backup

You'll still spend less than $1790, and have a backup, and in my experience Craddock usually delivers a sub MOA product.

If you need .25 MOA out of the gate, you're out of my league...
