Good afternoon gentlemen. I’m buying a Seekins DMR 22” in 6 ARC. It’s going to be my do everything rifle for plinking, hunting, and heavy range use on steel and paper. I have a 500 yard rifle range 5 minutes from my house so usually shooting 500 and under but if I can find a range I’ll definitely shoot it out to 1000.

Pretty sure I am going with a Vortex Venom 5-25x56 FFP with the mils reticle. I need help with the mounts. I’m happy to stick with Seekins mounts but it doesn’t have to be theirs. Sub $300ish would be nice if possible but not going to cheap out if it makes sense to spend another hundred or two. All of my experience is with typical 3-9x40 hunting scopes so I don’t know if I should go with a 0 or 20 MOA mount or one piece vs 2 rings. I’d like a red dot for close plinking and getting on target at range but don’t know if I should put it on a diving board or canted mount.

It won’t be the most ergonomic rifle with a 5-25, the weight, and the 22” barrel but that’s fine. I don’t want to compromise on any bench shooting accuracy especially being a gas gun. I can always go down to a 18 or 16” barrel later if I feel the need. Or buy a 5.56.

Not worried about the hunting side as I shot a bunch of deer and hogs behind the ear with a .243 Win and 85gr Nosler Partitions when I was young.

Planning on starting with 5 or 10 boxes of Hornady black box 105 gr JHP or ELDM 108 gr match and then reloading once I save up the brass.

Congrats the Seekins ARs are excellent. Have had my SP3G .223 since around 2013 or so and it’s a great rifle. I am sure the DMR will be great too.

The Venom wouldn’t be a bad scope in its price range. I like illumination so I put a Strike Eagle 5-25 on my 22” 6ARC below. I had a Badger mount floating around but have my Razor 1-6 in a Vortex/Seekins mount and it works great. If you went that route you will be fine. Definitely get a one piece cantilever mount. It allows better versatility for mounting. 0 or 20 moa will depend on how far you are reaching out but if only 500 then either will work with the Venom.

The Hornady 108 is excellent ammo in mine. Below is 5 shots at 550 on an IPSC target. I have shot it out to 1000 yards and it did great. Was hitting 6” plate at 900.

Thank you sir. I plan to find a 1000 yard range if I can and make some trips to it but 500 will be my typical max.

Well the rifle and ammo will do 1000 without a problem. Where in SC are you? There are some 1000 yard ranges down there around the state and even Coleman’s Creek if near NC.

What range are your typical shots on game, & what kind of terrain?

For me, in the woods, I want nothing more than 3x on the low end.

It’s either swampy low country where I usually take 18” bolt guns or corn and soybean fields so it could be out to 300+. Not sure I’d shoot a deer at 300 with a 6mm but there are probably modern bullets that would do it fine.

Hunting with this is secondary though as I always have other hunting rifles I can take.

Ah, 2 totally different situations probably requiring 2 different scopes. At least for me. Different rifles, too.
