until all pork is killed in every bill, and those making the laws & bleeding this country go broke.

While i like the sentiment, the politicians get paid during the shutdown. So they have no skin in the game. They don’t care. Elites doing elite things.

What we ought to do is force them to give up their paychecks, see how fast the rats can get things done then.
And all benefits that come with the job. Like security.

A 'shutdown' has yet to happen, ever. When the shutdowns occur, most of the gov continues to function due to 'mission criticality'. The only things that close are national parks and few other low hanging fruit type things.
And, all of the feds are paid for being off work. Contractors, maybe not. Want a true shutdown? Then f'in do it. No SS, no EBT, No fed fightfighters or law enforcement, no Fed loan processing, no VA health care, no vet disability payments, nothing.

Last one I remember, fed employees did not get paid if they were sent home.

They received back pay. 🤣

I've seen and heard enough in my lifetime to realize that their "token" salaries pale in comparison to the amount of money they rake in from shadier sources.

And if it shuts down, then it shuts down. Keep paying the military and social security, but every thing including congress doesn't get paid and they don't get back pay when they turn it back on. It's time congress feels the heat for F'ing around. They have one job and they haven't done that for years. And as long as you have me spun up, any CR passed can only be at 75% of the last budget AND it resets the budget to that level going forward. If you keep passing CRs then the budget gets smaller and smaller. If you pass 2 CRs in a year, you have lowered the budget to ~ 56% of what is was to begin with.

All this sounds good until one realizes Social Security, Medicare and interest on debt make up over 50% of our budget. That is not counting defense spending. So how much SS and Medicare are we going to cut?

I think I am good with them shutting off my SS - if they would just give me back the money I paid in . . . plus any interest I could/would have earned with my proper investments.

Of course, they don't have to pay me lump sum and I know they will collect taxes on it anyway.

Remember the SS trust fund was bulging at the seams before LBJ placed into general funds to pay for the V/N war, then it became a slush fund for congress. My vote is a complete shutdown then an across the board margin call, taking & selling the assets of all those there now & have served in congress from the day forward LBJ did that.

That's a fine thought, but the possibility of confiscating by government authority all the assets of every federally elected politician who has served since 1963 seems kind of remote, doesn't it? That's over 60 years, probably need to include the assets of the heirs too, right?

If they benefited in any way yes, for those who have passed on. Those still alive,... I'd settle for a pay per view option of the hanging and their kin can just take note of how things will be going forward.

So, Government asset seizure going back generations and public executions for the sins of the fathers. Really great system you're imagining here. Thankfully just Pit talk.

Why exclude the military and SS? You want congress to feel the heat or not?

Good point. The truly irritating thing about Soc Sec is that we paid into it and are getting almost NOTHING in return. Had there been some comprimise in the 90s where we could have at least 50% in even so much as a low risk fund or just the bank earning whatever interest there is...it would most likely be there at retirement. I figure my Soc Sec will never pay me out. Aka...don't count on the gubment to deliver anything but more taxes and deficits.

More high school drama club horseshit that will result in the exact same thing that every single one has before - Republicans will take a knee, suck some Democrat dick, and cede to their fiscal demands so the Dems can keep their illegal voting bloc, and we keep on kicking that dented, rusted, barely-even-still-together can down the road a couple more months so the same fucking thing can happen again, and again, and again.

I did not have Fetterman voting with the Republicans and Paul voting with the Dems on my September bingo sheet, though.

Kind of scary when stroked out Fetterman is the most bipartisan dem there.
Now if he’d start voting his conscience every time instead of the party line 9/10 times…

I do see him switching sides at some point though.

^ This is how it has been since at least 2012. Several shutdowns occurred during the Obummer era where a lot of civilians that I worked around were sent home. When everything was "approved" and the budget was "fixed", they received back pay for the days that they were off.

Bonus in their case is that they got those days off, didn't have to work, and then got paid for it without losing leave days etc...

*** Edited to fix my atrocious grammar.

Exactly this! Anyone that’s ever been through this knows it’s exactly this. Nobody losing their job, you will get paid eventually, enjoy the free vacation.

It’s budget time in DC.

^ Those dudes and dudettes are so stuck on the gub'ment tit, that it'll never happen. Quite literally at least 20% of those jobs were created by the people who are sitting in them. The chance at a quick transition to a civilian counterpart with even remotely close benefits, leave, and retirement packages is almost non-existent.

Democrats causing an extended Federal Government shutdown just in time for the 2026 midterms isn't going to go well for them or the country.
Protecting pedophiles, deploying troops all around the world while blowing shit up, pushing Ukraine to drive into Russia, and removing the deportation statistics from the website, because "mass deportations" was all a lie (as was the H-1B visa trick) isn't going to help the cause, either.

Because the neocons usurped the power of MAGA, the GOP loses 35 seats in the House, easy. You heard it here first.

Yep. And the problem is, the seats will either be uncontested or people will vote for the other side (same old dirt bags) because they think they are doing something with the two party system of choice. Even if there are some good contenders it always comes down to picking the lesser of 2-3 evils which no matter the side is generally made up of the same shit that was there before. The good old illusion of choice. You are lied to and your decisions swayed a certain way each and everyday and the more tech wins the more you will be manipulated.

That depends on who the voters blame. You know 100% of Democrats will blame Trump. Will Idependents blame the D or the R party? Bigger question.

Media partisans are going to spin the shutdown to favor their side so it's all going to come down to what media the independents consume. That's why Elon Musk buying Twitter was such a game changer.

Or the swamp is totally out of control.

You think caving to allow a trillion $$ for trans, wets, socialists and criminals is strength?

I don’t think so!

In 2013… Trump honestly had no clue about how FUBAR the swamp has gotten. And it’s gotten worse!

He needs to start cancelling $100’billion worth of programs every day and permanently firing the government workers until either this ends… or he has cut enough shit to balance the budget.

I see he started with 2 giant NYC pork projects. Next… guy California, Illinois. And Vermont. Not that Much gets spent here. But take away the federal $$$ and you starve out the socialists.

“You’re Fired” should echo from Sea
To Shining Sea!!!
