Remember the SS trust fund was bulging at the seams before LBJ placed into general funds to pay for the V/N war, then it became a slush fund for congress. Good point. The truly irritating thing about Soc Sec is that we paid into it and are getting almost NOTHING in return. Had there been some comprimise in the 90s where we could have at least 50% in even so much as a low risk fund or just the bank earning whatever interest there is...it would most likely be there at retirement.
