I just registered here and want to say Hello . I will be buying a LaRure 18 inch stelth OBR and want a Nightforce scope ,but my budget will not allow it (divorce's are expensive). I have a Nikon Tactical 4-16x50 30mm on my Remington 700P and it works well .I was wondering if there is a scope in the $1000.00 range that would work well on the OBR for target shooting at 50 to 500 meters . In other words ,whats the best bang for the buck at $1000.00 . Also are there any site sopnsors that have special priceing for forum members on scopes and the Larue OBR ? Not being rich is a curse.

For the OBR just call LaRue and ask for Mark and tell him Lowlight sent you for the Sniper's Hide discount...

Re: Scope for LaRue OBR

Look at the Vortex PST line, great for the money. If you dont mind a Fixed Power, look at SWFA SS, the 10xHD or a 3-9 might work well for you. Is this including the mount with the budget?

Re: Scope for LaRue OBR

I would say that the Nightforce 2.5-10 you wanted is a great choice, and if you wanted one, you should save a bit longer and buy one! In fact, there is a used one in the for sale forum for $1350 right now, mil dot, mil turrets, zero stop. That is the best one to get, IMO. If you are willing to settle for moa turrets, etc, they can be had for less than $1000 in the fs forum, if you keep your eyes sharp.

Perfect...

Re: Scope for LaRue OBR

The Larue OBR demands only one optic.....the "Counter Sniper"!

Dont forget that you will need a scope that can shoot to a mile to go on that OBR.

Re: Scope for LaRue OBR

At 60 years old I have been around the block a couple of times already . I had heard that there was a discount code some where at a gun show recently ,perhaps I was misinformed. At any rate at least you guys have a sense of humor around here. As far as shooting a mile ,that's some funny $hit right there.
Let me rephrase the post .I'm an old cheap bastard, how can I get the OBR and a suitable scope at the best price ?

Re: Scope for LaRue OBR

For a $200.00 saveings on a used over new OBR I'll pass. I want a NIB OBR and it looks like I'll just have to hang in there for a while and keep shooting my Armalite T10 with a Weaver classix extreme 2.5-10x50 and my hand loads of 175 grain SMK over 44 grains of Varget to punch .308 holes in paper untill I have more cash . Maybe if I switch from The McAllan Single malt to Dewars blended i can splurge on my dream semi rifle sooner. As for the scope a used NF would work . I was thinking the NF NXS 3.5-15X56 MILDOT WOULD BE A GOOD CHOICE .

Re: Scope for LaRue OBR

What do you think an OBR will do that your 10T won't?

This was my thought as well. If you are in fact "Cheap" why buy a $3000 AR when you can build a great shooting rifle yourself for a lot less money and have money for the optic which in my opinion is more important than the rifle to start with? I can understand maybe buying a custom built for you rifle if your shooting ability is such that you can shoot better than your current gun allows. Build the rifle yourself (it ain't rocket science) and while building save for the NF. You will enjoy the experience and if you buy quality parts, your rifle will perform. It's not just the rifle that puts the bullet on target, you have to be able to shoot it. $3000 Larue rifle alone doesn't get the job done. It does impress friends and makes for good posts in the pictures threads next to the swimming pool. Build a $2000 AR and buy the $1300 NF, load some ammo and shoot it. Keep the other $700-$1000 in your pocket.i

Re: Scope for LaRue OBR

Leupy Mk 4 used 3.5-10 is a great optic. If your looking for shooting steel, trijicon ACOG works for my M4 to 500 yards no problem and we do table 2,3,4 shoots from 25-5 yards works like a champ. Only problem is minimal eye relief. with .308 would suggest higher than 4x mag though. both used you could find under a grand

Re: Scope for LaRue OBR

50-500 meters and on a budget, you might take a look at the Sightron SII Big Sky 4.5-14x44 mildot. It's not a fancy optic, but it gets the job done. I agree with the other guys, why dump 3 grand into a rifle when the 10T is a good shooter. Here's another suggestion: Call George at GAP and ask him about rebarreling and a trigger job on that 10T. I'll bet it's a lot less than 3 grand, and you're gonna end up with a fine rifle.

Re: Scope for LaRue OBR

My T10 is big ,heavy and has 24 inch barrel ,I figured the 18 inch Larue steath OBR would be a better size and lighter package when I'm out in the desert . I Shoot well very with the T10 ,Jard trigger and my hand loads and if I got the OBR would sell it and use the money for the OBR and NF scope . I was hopeing the OBR and NF scope would produce tighter groups at distance in a lighter more manageable package . I'm not looking to impress anyone at the range with the OBR . It will be for my own amusement and shooting coyotes out in the Sonoran desert .Looks like cheap thrills ain't so cheap any more.

Re: Scope for LaRue OBR

You could always re-barrel your armalite or cut your factory barrel down. Alternatively you could sell your upper and purchase/build a different upper with a lighter profile barrel.

Have you seen the larue predatAR 308? It's a lightened version of the OBR & sells for 500 less.

Re: Scope for LaRue OBR

If you wanted cheap thrills you wouldn't be buying an OBR, so your logic is screwed anyway. Many 'yotes have died way before the onset of the SA sniper platform and most folks that take the majority of predators would not see the need to spend $3K on a rifle....

If you are interested in a coyote AR for the Sonoran desert from a Sonoran desert coyote hunter, click the link in my signature. More than one of his rifles shoots at the Worlds and will leave enough money in your pocket for plenty of hunts.

Re: Scope for LaRue OBR

Shooting the yotes is just for fun. I know I don't need it I want it . I have many other rifles to pop yotes with . I have probably no need what so ever for the OBR . It would be a new fun toy to kill time with .I know and understand what the OBR is intended for and won't need it for that ,although it is nice to know if I needed it it would be there. It is like a ZO6 Corvette you can't drive 189mph or do 60 sideways around corners ,but it's nice to know it can do it if you wanted to .There is an old proverb "you may not have money for what you need ,but you always have money for what you want".

Re: Scope for LaRue OBR

Sounds like your mind was made up before you made this post. You mentioned being cheap in a previous post. To me $3000 for a rifle ain't cheap. People have answered the question you asked but you're set to give Mark Larue $3000 for a rifle so give it to him. If you can afford $3000 for a rifle, you can afford $2500 for a SB scope for it. If it's going to be your dream rifle that compares to a z06 vette, put a dream scope on it too. You wouldn't put $75 tires on th z06 would you?

Re: Scope for LaRue OBR

Don't need Viagra, and have never and won't ever pay for sex I don't go with whoes that my friend is just plain nasty . Divorce was due to not being able to get along with her after many years of marrige ,simple as that . I a'm not going to settle for less on the rifle or scope ,I want a real OBR stealth 18 inch and a real NF scope .I would like to get a great DEAL on it ,but if I cant I'll just have to pay for what I want in the end sooner or later. The reason I say I'm a cheap bastard is I have to try to get a great deal to be happy . If I end up getting a great deal ,I'll be happy as hell ,if not at least I'll know I tryed .Some how I enjoy a purchase much better if I think I got a great deal on it. Just my nature I guess .

Re: Scope for LaRue OBR

Have you considered the PredatAR in 7.62? It's a little cheaper and you save weight. As far as discounts, if your Mil or LE, you get 10% off. I just bought a Vortex PST in 4-16x50. The only other high dollar scope that I can compare it to is a Luepy Mark 4 in 4-16x50. They both feel equally made. The pst impressed me for the price @ half the price of the Luepy. Glass is clear and knobs have good, tight clicks.

Also as you see there aren't alot of Larue fans on this site. I'm not a "fanboy" but he makes a hell of a product. I have several of his mounts and can only say good things about them.

Re: Scope for LaRue OBR

What happened is I had the chance to shoot an OBR stealth with a Nightforce at the range ,and I was hooked. I have never seen or shot a Vortex PST . I'm prety set on the package of the OBR and NF.

Re: Scope for LaRue OBR

Vortex if you don't want to spend the cash. Nighforce 2.5-10x32 would be prefered.

Re: Scope for LaRue OBR

For the dollar the Vortex PST, Weaver Tactical, and Bushnell. I put the Vortex PST at the top of the list. We sell all three of them but at this time we do not have the Weaver or all the Bushnells on our website yet.

If we can be of help fee free to call, PM, or send an email.

Re: Scope for LaRue OBR

Forgive my ignorance on this subject ,but what a'm I giveing up on the Viper PST over the NF ? Are they as bright and clear ? are they as trouble free ? is the tracking as good ? If I could save the money and get as good a scope it might be an option . Looks like almost half the price .

Re: Scope for LaRue OBR

PST is a decent scope, but the glass is not quite as nice as a NF. The big thing, however, is the NF has a track record in the field and in competition for being uber reliable. So the extra $$ you spend getting the NF is for better glass/material with better QC/track record.

Re: Scope for LaRue OBR

You cannot compare the NF to the PST they NF will beat it. If you are looking for dollar value the PST are great. I feel the NF for the price and what you get are one of the best ways to go.

I’m also a big fan of the USO ST-10s for the price.
