any recommendations for cheap bulk ammo for 12 gauge / 45acp / .223?

Trying to buy at least a 1000 rounds each monthly.

Any recommendations on vendors? Any that have a promo code for snipers hide?

My best deals are always local, from guys who jump in with too much enthusiasm and then wind up with more than their budgets can allow. Look on local-to-you boards.

How many rounds are you planning to carry and or use in "the apocalypse"? You might be better off to acquire a smaller stash of high quality defensive ammunition for an emergency.

A better reason to be stocking up is that we are likely to see another situation where ammo demand exceeds supply as we approach the election next year. Ammo prices will likely be inflated as we saw in late 2008 and early 2009.

www.ammoengine.com shows who has it and at what price. There is some lag time, but I find it to be pretty accurate, within 12 hours or so. I also found some new sites that I have never frequented in the past.

I agree though. These "It's the end of the World as we know it" topics are getting old and tiresome.

A simple "Hey. I need help stocking up on this", or "I am looking for a reliable gun", more than suffices and doesn't make the poster look like a kid who watches too many movies, and plays too many videogames, or someone who wears a tinfoil hate, and gives the other members here some freedom from the redundant.

Tell you what. Why dont we ban the never ending stream of guys who bag on new members for asking what they think are dumb questions?

If your time is so valuable and inside knowledge/coolfactor is so high you can't be helpful then maybe you could just ignore these questions.

Im sure LL is capable enough to police his own site. You could always volunteer to be a hall monitor somewhere though.


To the OP: Try Kieslers if you are .mil or police, otherwise the search engine above for the overstock deals is the best bet. Veer is right though, going local to avoid shipping is almost always the best bet if you can find what you need.

questions like this dont get ppl banned cause if they did, the dumbass questions we ask on car forums, machinist forms, tractor forums, etc, would get us banned....for example.

Just roll with it fellas. If you dont want to bother answering or pointing the noobs in the correct direction, just move on to another thread. Easy.

Besides, hammering on noobs may just get you the ban hammer...and you dont want that, right? :)

Pretty sure the Mods have warned folks against bashing people on their posting. How many people do you plan to ban until the site is restricted to people who only ask technical questions or paying members? If you don't want to read it then don't. Some of this stuff is so silly it is actually entertaining to read. When he said "apocalypse cache" I am pretty sure he used it lightly.

I've used some Tula 45acp before its not to bad for just plinking. Its right at 15.50 at walmart here. I reload my 223 and 12ga.

On a serious not, I agree with watching the local classifieds and forum classifieds. I buy lots and lots of bulk ammo on these internet forum classifieds. You can find really great deals. I bought 300 rounds of German .308 surplus today for $90 and 500 rounds of .45acp Federal HST for $250

This here is a good reason to reload. Looking at .45ACP alone I decided to just do a quick numbers crunch on Midway's web site. Like some have mentioned (with humor), if you are gonna stock ammo for the fore mentioned scenario, it may as well be good defensive stuff and not target practice rounds. Picking an arbitrary number of 500 rounds of .45 ACP, just to use as a baseline, and then choosing a decent defensive load offered by a manufacturer, I picked the Hornady 230gr XTP +p JHP.

If I wanted to load 500 rounds of this, the cost of components alone would run me about $350. Thats using standard pricing from Midway. Shopping around or diffrent preferences will lead to diffrent pricing. That specific load, ordered at a quantity of 500 will cost $475, again using Midway's prices. So right off the bat I can save $125 by loading my own. Buying components locally can save me on shipping and hazmat fees. The two biggest things that turn people off to reloading is the cost of equipment, and the time involved. A standard starter kit will run you about $200-300, and figure $35 for a set of dies. But if you consider the first 1k rounds of loaded pistol ammo alone, you have either paid for, or nearly paid for the equipment. Spend another $40 for a set of .223 dies and now you can load both. I have a standard single stage press and it can take me maybe 2 hours to load 100 rounds of 30-06 ammo to the same (or better) specs as most match grade brands. Figure on that same setup, 500 pistol rounds would take about 4 hours. I have seen guys with progressive presses crank out 100 rounds in 20 minutes.

To me I would rather have 200 rounds of hand loaded ammo that I am confident with, as opposed to 1000k spam can rounds of god-knows-what. I have shot enough bulk ammo to know that you really dont know what you got. So if it is something I may need to depend on, either spend pretty coin on new, premium ammo, that I would be confident with, or invest the time and money and aquire a new skill set. But, then again, it may not be great, or even reliable, but seeing 1k rounds of shiny bullets sitting in an ammo box is enough to make some folks feel warm, fuzzy and secure.

SGAMMO - talk to Sam. He's out of Stillwater OK but travels to a fair # of shows. And will ship for a fair cost.

Just have to watch when he gets bulk in - as his clientele snatch up the bulk stuff fairly quickly.

They tend to run in packs. PM me where you buried your Silver, you might not make it. Out of ammo and effective range you will be.

There is no reason to stock up on bulk ammo unless you plan on shooting that bulk ammo at some point.

A good size stash of quality defensive ammo is worth far more than mountains of bulk ammo in an emergency.

Reading the post, the OP plans on shooting the ammo, not just sitting on it. Of course, 1,000 rounds a month of 12 ga. / .45 ACP / .223 doesn't show a lot of forward thinking or indicate any kind of a training regimen.

Here at the Hide, we pride ourselves on having a lot of serious shooters. Threads like these are not posted by serious shooters. I think if you post on an impending apocalypse, you deserve to be bagged on.

This is part of the "social contract" here... I agree that newbies shouldn't get hazed just for being newbies or asking questions that start them on a path to being serious about marksmanship, but when someone is starting down the wrong path... they lose their right to not get their @$$ handed to them. People are entitled to their own opinions. Other people are entitled to correct someone else's opinion, especially in regards to zombie apocalypses.
