Re: post your berger VLD kills

.260 Remington, 130gr VLD, 255 yards. Buck ran, maybe 30 yards. No exit wound.

.260 Rem, 130gr VLD, 40 yards, DRT. 2" exit wound. Blew a chunk of lung the size of a card deck out on the ground.

.260 Rem, 130gr VLD, 142 yards, baseball sized exit, DRT.

.257 Wby, 115gr VLD, IIRC, about 165 yards. Exit wound shown. Ran maybe 20 yards.

.257 Wby, 115gr VLD, shot directly in the poop chute as it was running away from me at about 200 yards. No exit, DRT.

.308, 155gr VLD, 40 yards, baseball sized exit, DRT.

Bobcat1.jpg

Don't have a picture handy but also killed a whitetail doe with a 155gr VLD from my .308 at 165 yards. Baseball sized exit, ran about 60 yards. Additionally, killed a big sow, 200+ in the hips with a 155gr VLD as it ran through the mesquites. Went down on the spot and bled out dead before I could get to it.

Extremely effective bullets, in my estimation...

Hondo64d - wow - great stuff! I've never managed to take a bobcat. Someday... Congratulations!

Young Washington mule deer buck, 175 yards, 115 Berger/.25-06 rifle. I was glad he didn't tumble past these rocks, it was a long way down to the bottom:

Doe at 400 yards, same rifle & load. The 115 Berger VLD again:

That's all my Berger VLD photos so far. Overall, I'm impressed. Quick kills and good accuracy.

Re: post your berger VLD kills

I shot an antelope a couple of weeks ago with 175 vld 44.5 varget Lapua brass around 2670 mv at 400 yards. He dropped immediately with entrance wound right behind shoulder and about 2 inch exit wound on other side. Shot a deer with same load a week ago quartering shot went into rib cage and stopped at shoulder. Deer ran about thirty yards with no blood trail. Absolutely disentigrated his vitals according to the guy who processed him.

Re: post your berger VLD kills

300RUM/190VLD:
Coyote at 243 yards - DRT, disemboweled.
Whitetail doe at 93 yards - HOLY SHIT! DRT. very impressive exit spray.

7WSM/168VLD:
WT Buck at 240 yards - High lung went 40 yards+/-
WT Buck at 100 yards - High shoulder/spine DRT
Axis buck at 204 yards - high shoulder, no exit, ran 20 yards.

243/105VLD:
Antelope at 420 yards - in near shoulder, out far hip, ran 80-100 yards.

That's all I got. Bullets work on these animals.

Re: post your berger VLD kills

I shoot the 168's from my 7mag. I love them, this muley fell on the spot (118yds). In just behind left shoulder and hit right shoulder, no exit wound, bullet was found just below the skin. I shot a big doe a couple days later, similar shot with no exit wound dead on the spot (150yds). My buck last year was taken at 465yds hit broadside through lungs, small exit wound, he stood about 3-4 seconds and collapsed, he moved about 6 feet. I love this bullet.

Re: post your berger VLD kills

This was 3 years ago, with the 6.5 130 VLD hunting bullet. was a few hunred away and about 100 below me quartering away. Bullet went in and did not exit . The lungs were destroyed but he still managed to run to a deeper hole.

Re: post your berger VLD kills

2 little pigs with a 140 VLD from my 260 at about 80 yards. Bullet entered first pig's neck behind the ear and blew a huge chunk of spine out the other side, what was left of the bullet entered the second one's ear, no exit. Both DRT.

I'll post pics later of the ram I got also, can't get them uploaded from my iPhone.

Re: post your berger VLD kills

155 VLDs pushed by 45 grains of 8208. Same load on both rifles. Boths slugs exited.

Cull bucks on my buddy's ranch. Venison turned into Jerky and Slim Jims and a couple of large flat rate boxes from the first one sent to Afghanistan, more heading that way.

Taken last month on a sendero seeded with corn, shy of 200 yards

Taken two weeks ago on a crossing sendero from 317 yards.

Re: post your berger VLD kills

This is a great thread, I was wondering the same thing. I just had a .300wsm put together and I wanted to try Bergers

Re: post your berger VLD kills

Dave, the 210s are the ones I'm pushin out of mine and they are crazy accurate and nothing moves after I hit them!

Re: post your berger VLD kills

Shooting 168g VLD out of a GAP 280AI. 265yds quartering away. Bullet entered back of ribs on his right side and exited just behind left shoulder. Exit wound was about tennis ball size. He went 30yds. When I field dressed him, he didn't really have any lung left on his left side, liquified it like going thru a blender.

The exit wound on a Pronghorn Antelope taken at about 292 yards with a 300 Weatherby shooting 168 gr. VLDs. I also took 3 other antelope with that gun on that trip.

A deer taken with a 25/06 shooting 115 gr. VLDs. The deer was departing so I took a "Texas Heart Shot." The bullet entered the back of the right rear leg and didn't exit. I had to look really hard to find the entry wound.

Nice kils man

I got a 280AI this year and ran the Nosler factory 140AB load, can't argue with the results on game nor accuracy

I am about out of the factory loads they sent me and have some 140 ABs to load up. On paper, the 140 VLDs don't do anything better than the ABs but the 168 VLD might be worth looking at

What barrel length are you running?
load data?

thanks

Re: post your berger VLD kills

Heres a few, Gap Non Typical 300wsm with 168gr VLD's and GAP Rock 243 105gr VLD's

IMG_2415.jpg

Mule deer at 280 yards with 300WSM

IMG_0102.jpg

Whitetail at the ranch 297 yards with the 243

All were one shot kills and only the deer loaded on the rack went anywhere, about 25 yards.

IMG_0575.jpg

And also from the ranch one of favorites, 209 yard eyeball shot with a GAP Rock 243 105gr VLD's

IMG_2378.jpg

Another from the ranch 312 yards with the 243.

Re: post your berger VLD kills

Another .260 130gr VLD kill. No exits, but pig didn't go far. Barring a CNS hit, pigs are the toughest animals I have ever killed, and they have covered less distance after the shot with VLDs than any other bullet I have tried.

What a complete waste of good hides. That sucks, I just seen some bobcat hides go for $450 a piece at a fur auction out here in Denver on saturday.

Re: post your berger VLD kills

I was unaware of the hides being so valuable. What's the process for handling the hides if you kill one without the VLD damage? I've got about 4-5 more bob cats roaming around my favorite deer stand. Also, what's the best way to harvest them without messing up the hides?

I use a .204 ruger for bobcat. Doesn't tear up the hide and drops em deader than shit. If you want to start selling the hides, you should read up on tanning techniques and care before and after. There is alot of local auctions here in colorado, I'm sure there's local auctions in every state, but I know there are national auctions too. I'll dig up all the tanning and auction info I have and pm you with it. Gutting a yote with a vld is one thing, but a few bobcat hides could pay for a new rifle and optics.
