So the faster the twist your rifle has the heavier the bullet it can stabilise.... ok, I can accept that.

But heres what I dont get.

I need a 1 in 8 twist to shoot a 75 grain bullet out of my 223,

but, heres the thing

I can shoot 120 grains 308 with a 1 in 10 twist...

So thats an even heavier bullet and less twist..? I dont get it.

Re: I just dont get it

Its a much larger diameter making it much shorter and not as likely to wobble or tumble end over end I think would be the reason. Not hard to throw a spiral with a baseball now is it? Others might have a correct answer but I think this above is true. Do not use my post as gospel I am guessing and I am stupid. Thanks PG

It's all relative. See a 120gr bullet is light for a .308 whereas a 75gr bullet is heavy for a .223. So in other words 'light' and 'heavy' are relative to the caliber not to each other.

Heavier bullets for caliber are longer and thus typically require faster rates of twist to stabilize them than barrel twists that are sufficient for lighter (shorter) bullets in the same caliber.
