I have been often asked about my GsG, and as always I go into a rant about this and that, and trying to explain to someone what all I did was getting a little old so here is the story of My GsG, (sorry, it is a little pic heavy) and all of the modifications I did. Some were absolutely necessary, some not so much. If you decide to do any of the modifications I did do so with EXTREME caution and AT YOUR OWN RISK.
Special thanks to: German Sport Guns, American Tactical Imports, Heckler & Koch,Tactical22.net, (Kilibreaux, Popcop45) Ar15.com,( jakal2001, c=man, franky4fun) RRAGES.com, hkparts.net, and anyone else who I forgot to mention this build could not have been completed without your help and guidance.
Now on to the good stuff:
A wedding present from my wife, me GSG started life as a GSG-522 post-law suit. For those of you that don’t know, German Sport Guns and American Tactical Imports were sued for copy write infringement by Heckler and Koch, so German Sport Guns tried to change the look of the GsG 5 to appease the courts, making changes that made it look more and more like a toy. The changes didn’t fly in court, and the end result was these guns are no longer in production.

So the First thing I did was Purchase a conversion kit to return my GSG to the Pre-Law Suit version or the GSG 5
DSC_0081.jpg

The left one came on my GSG, the right one came in the kit along with the priginal Cocking Tube and various parts to complete the original look
DSC_0076.jpg

Next came the buffer, which this weapon does not come with one, and without it your cocking tube will slam against the face and break

After that, I did the screw replacement. This was done because the screws would back out on thier own, and looked like they were dry wall screws, with no locking nuts.
DSC_0079.jpg

These also had to be removed with the GSG tool they sent you, a standard Philips head would strip them out FAST

The screw replacement set I got from RRAGES.com came with the correct alan head screws and nuts to make a tight fit without fear of them backing out at all

Next came the imbeded laser in the cocking tube. Nice and flush, and a really "clean" look.

Next came the sights. I did not like the "toy" plastic rear drum sight, so I replaced it with a H&K mp5 one from HKParts.net. I had to add a shim underneath that you can't see, but it was worth it

DSC_0066.jpg

A GSG claw setup was needed, as the plastic one that came on the gun was already warped.
DSC_0060.jpg

I found a Bushnell Holosight for 50 Bucks on ebay, and it worked GREAT couldnt ask for a better red dot. They are no longer in production as I understand it

DSC_0064.jpg

Added a Condor 2 or 1 point sling and a H&K mp5 rear stock to offset the weight (this thing is really front heavy)

Re: My GSG 5 Mod List and Information (Pic Heavy)

Then I removed the Magazine Safety Lever Completely. The reason is if you have this installed (comes factory installed) you cannot open the bolt without a magazine in place. This is stupid, what happens if you shot 5 rounds out of a 22 round clip and a Cease Fire is called, I am not going to cycle 17 rounds out of the breech. With this removed, I can eject the mag and the ONE round in the chamber safely clear the weapon with no problems and without taking 10 minutes. A side note, with this lever installed you cannout fire the weapon without a magazine installed. If you take this out, you can fire this weapon without a magazine installed

While I had the trigger pack apart, I went ahead and did the Hammerstrut Mod, which really makes the action run smooth, and removes some uneeded locking mechanism from the pack.

You can see the pieces I modified, thanks to Kilibreaux on Tactical22.net.

Picture207.jpg

I modified the side plate to reduce friction, and modified it to reduce trigger movement, it now has a nice SMOOTH 2.5 pound trigger

**Polishing!!! These are the surfaces I polished Using ryobi white rouge and flitz metal polish
Hammer(contact surfaces)
Hammer Strut (where the strut contacts the hammer)
Sear - contact points
Bottom of the breech bolt

Now I was tired of the plastic selector, it looked like a toy. I picked up a H&K MP5 selector and modified it and the trigger pack to accept it. 100000 time cleaner I think

Re: My GSG 5 Mod List and Information (Pic Heavy)

Now about that pesky trigger housing and grip, I never liked either of the two, the original or the one in the conversion kit. So I bought a SEF Lower and modified it to fit.
DSC_0038.jpg

DSC_0042.jpg

I had to modify a washer to make sure everything is held together tightly, and it worked like a charm
DSC_0043.jpg

While I was at it, I ditched the plastic grip cap for a classic army metal one. 1 shim and I was in buisness
DSC_0040.jpg

Next, I did not like the plastice foregrip, it was alwys loose and felt cheap.
DSC_0072.jpg

So I found a Knights Armament RAS complete with rail covers and a foregrip
DSC_0053.jpg

DSC_0050.jpg

had to machine the collar to fit the GSG,
DSC_0061.jpg

DSC_0062.jpg

and change the bolt that held the Barrel in place for a set screw
DSC_0074.jpg

But it worked GREAT. Very strong, No movement and best of all minus one more plastic part

Re: My GSG 5 Mod List and Information (Pic Heavy)

While I was on the RAS mod, I went ahead and swapped out the takedown screws

For the H&K Quick takedown pushpins
DSC_0052.jpg

From the get go I was haveing ALOT of light strikes. I did a little research and found out how to modify the firing pin to ensure correct impact EVERY time

Afterwards I had no light strikes, and no FTFs.

Re: My GSG 5 Mod List and Information (Pic Heavy)

Now Unfortunately, I do not have any fully assembled pics for you,

DSC_0037.jpg

There is one more problem the GSG's have that I am in the middle of haveing corrected. The receiver is made from magnesium alloy which has an AFFINITY and a half for water. It is a pain to keep clean, and the metal like to turn green and build up white residue. After some research and testing, a good duracoat seemed to fix the problem, plus it cleaned it up and made it look so much better. So the rest is sitting at the gunsmith being coatd (AGAIN, but that is another story all together)when it comes back I will add that pic. Until then, if you have any questions feel free to ask. I hope you enjoyed my little write up. Not all of these mods are necessary, but the ones that are make the weapon safer and a joy to shoot.

(Space saved for when I get me receiver back from the smith ;))
