For a general plinking round is this an ok round to shoot out of a 18" 1-8 twist ar15?

I'd go with M193 but that will work. Just be conscious of what you shoot at with magnetic bullets.

They are great bullets. I keep some stock piled for SHTF. And No they are not "magnetic" they do have a small steel penetrator.
