I have a marLin .17hmr I believe it is 917v in a real nice fancy thumbhole stock with a bsa sweet 17 scope. I want to make it a trainer and want a tactical stock more like my 308 and 223. I also would like to change out use trigger. Who makes one besides rifle basix? Or is their trigger worth it? If anyone knows of a stock let me know. Lookin for sometimes like the savage tr

Re: tacticool stock for 17

Boyds Tacticool stock is the same stock thats used on the savage tr, And i haven't used any of rifle basixs rimfire stuff, But I have had two centerfires that sported their triggers and I was pleased.

i have the rifle basix for that exact gun and i love it, a huge improvement over the factory
I am also thinking about the Boyds tacticool stock pretty hard and may end up with it here in a few month. I think boyds is about the only company that makes that sort of stock for that specific rifle.

Re: tacticool stock for 17

Ordered 2 tacticools not long ago for a 917v and 10/22. They were both marked as backordered when the order was placed, had them in less than 3 weeks.

Re: tacticool stock for 17

I put a rifle basix trigger in my marlin and enjoyed it. No complaints and I don't regret buying it. I dropped one in my rifle about four years ago and no issues at all.

I know this thread is about a stock but i figured if someone was suing the search box for triggers it might help.

I have a marlin 917 with the rifle basix and the tacticool stock love them both. Can't go wrong with either the trigger or stock but you will need to trim the stock for perfect fit.

Re: tacticool stock for 17

I've got a 917 with both the Rifle Basix trigger and the Boyd's stock. Trigger made a huge difference in the gun. While it still has a lot of over travel, it completely did away with the floppy trigger the rifle stock. I had done the Bic pen spring mod to the factory trigger which helped with the weight but did nothing for feel. The RB trigger made enough of a difference that I had to re-zero the rifle as it was now a consistent 2 inches left at 100yds. I don't know what the weight is adjusted to on mine but it's pretty light but I feel safe with it. I had to grind the engagement notch on the safety to make it work correctly but if I remember correctly the instructions that came with the trigger covered that.
My rifle dropped right into the stock. I think I had to sand one spot in the barrel channel to free float the barrel and that was it. I've been meaning to glass-bed it but it still shoots so well that it really hasn't been a priority.
This is probably my favorite rifle that I own. Both of these mods only made it better. My future plans are to cut the barrel to 18" and thread it for a silencer/brake.
