Salt Lake County, Utah
Location: This match will held at Hobble Creek Gun Club as they are much more accommodating than the Provo range.

Time: 09:00-12:00

The next Utah Cheapskate .22LR match will be on Saturday March 17th. Because of the varying skill levels we will split the match into beginner and advanced groups. We will have room for 12 shooters in the advanced and everyone else will be able to fit into the beginner group.

If you have finished in the top 8 in either of the last two matches you have first priority for a slot in the advanced group. If there is still room after that then anyone else is welcome to shoot it.

If things work out I would like to be at the range the evening before to help any of you set up your gear, get DOPE, and answer any questions you may have.

The beginner COF is as follows.

Stage Position Distance Time Rounds Points

Cold Bore Prone 25 15 1 30
Hostage Prone 25 30 3 60
KYL Prone 25 40 4 50
Speed Dots Prone 25 25 5 50
Windows Prone 50 60 6 60
Bugs Prone 50 50 5 TBD
Silhouette P/B 50 100 10 100
Group Prone 100 100 10 100

The advanced COF will be similar to what you have seen in the past except we will push out to 200+ yds.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Semper Fi,

Cory

Put me down for the advanced. And a +1 for a spot on advance if one opens up, if not a beginner spot. (For my father.)

Sign me up, advanced (with my AARP handicap)

I will bring a 200yd KYL and the 4 paper target frames, anything else?

Paper Card Deck Target for best 5 card Poker hand, 7 shots. $5 per shooter, best hand wins pot. What thinks you?

I think the frames and KYL will be perfect! Thank you for offering them. I like the poker idea. That would be a fun post match activity. I assume that you shoot at the back of the cards and then turn them over to see who won?

Re: Utah Cheapskate .22LR Mar. 17th

I will be there but most likely wont have a gun to shoot yet. We'll see.

OK there are a few things I need to mention as a Range officer there at the Hobble Creek Range. (Actually called the Garth kilpak Range) but everyone calls it the Hobbles Creek range since its in Hobble Creek Canyon.

1) As guests at the range we need to be sure to clean up after ourselves. (not that that was an issue just part of my speech to guests)

2)We are ONLY allowed to shoot on the ranges reserved for the shoot. Shooting at the Law enforcement ranges (1st two when you come in the gate) or the cowboy shoot ranges (the next two) is not allowed. Doing so can get you kicked out of the range.

3)The official range dates and hours are posted on the gate. (not sure if this years is up yet but you can see last years if not to get an idea of how it works.)

Cory- you mentioned going to the range friday nigtht before the match. Technically that would count as a different day so would be another 25.00 fee.
Also the military has training some fridays so one or two of the ranges might not even be available.

Also, If you are a member of the range You can shoot any day the range is open to the public at no charge. Its also free if you are a member of the range an accompanied by a range officer, me for example, on a non-range day. Non-range day meaning a day when the range isnt open to the public.

The cost of membership is $10.00 per year single person, 15.00 couple, 20.00 family.

So basically what Im saying is that at the next shoot anyone who wants to pay 10.00 for a membership instead of 2.00 for the day will not only be free at all Cheapskate competition at the this range but also be able to shoot on open range days all year at no additional charge.

I dont know the exact date sbut the range is typicaly open to the public starting around mid april until October I think. Its open every other thursday and every other saturday. In the fall it extends to sundays. I know its not much but its all run by volunteers like me and some people dont want to spend every single thursday and saturday supervising the range.

It would be great if the city would just hire a couple of full time raneg officers to run it all week but thats not going to happen.

Another think to think about Cory is that once the range opens you will need to schedule the shoots on one of the every other saturdays that the range isnt open to the public to be sure we have full use of the range.

Ill send you a PM with info.

Cory, maybe you could just do this in the morning for an hour or two before the start of the match, and just push the match start time back by that much, that way you can do it all on one reservation.

Re: Utah Cheapskate .22LR Mar. 17th

Please mark me down for the advanced group.

Re: Utah Cheapskate .22LR Mar. 17th

Plese put me down for the advanced group. I will probably be bringing Will Smith who normally runs the High Power across the course matches in Centerville. He will want to shoot in the advanced if he can make it.

Thanks,

Re: Utah Cheapskate .22LR Mar. 17th

Please mark me down on the beginner list.

Re: Utah Cheapskate .22LR Mar. 17th

Slight change of plans: Instead of having a practice/setup day on the Friday before the match, we will have it on the Saturday before the match at the Provo Gun Club. I will be there from 12-2ish. Let me know if you are going to be there and what (if anything) you may need help with.

Re: Utah Cheapskate .22LR Mar. 17th

It seems there has been some confusion as to who will shoot the advanced group and who will shoot the beginner group. I have them separated that way not to harm or bolster anyone's ego, but to keep the match flowing efficiently and safely. Obviously the advanced match will have a more difficult COF, but that does not mean that the beginner COF will be a cake walk, especially under match conditions. In order to free up room in the advanced group I will move myself to the beginner.

For Clarity:
As stated on the first post for this match, the advanced group is for those who have finished in the top 8 of our previous matches. The week before the match, if there is room, those who want to shoot the advanced COF who havn't finished in the top 8 are welcome sign up for it. This will obviously be on a first come first serve basis. Also, on the day of the match, if someone doesn't show who has signed up for the advanced group, a shooter from the beginner group can take his place.

Please let me know what you guys think.

Done and done. If you want to bring out your golf ball targets again that would be great. I'll put them out at more reasonable distances this time!

Re: Utah Cheapskate .22LR Mar. 17th

Alright gents it looks like it'll be a bit soggy tomorrow morning with some wind. Make sure to dress for the occasion.

We are going to run the beginner COF at the same time as the advanced, which means I'll need someone to run the COF for the advanced. If you are willing to do this please PM me and I'll get you the details.

I guess the gate will be open tomorrow morning at 08:30 so if you can come early and help set up that would be much appreciated.

Gear we need:
-Staplers WITH staples
-Tape
-White spray paint

If you can bring any of this please let me know. I'll see you all bright and early tomorrow!

-Cory

Re: Utah Cheapskate .22LR Mar. 17th

Good work today gents. Everyone was safe, fun and friendly so that's a successful day in my book. It was good to see the old crew but I always love to meet new shooters. I really appreciate all the help I receive from people providing targets, range gear and their organizational skills. This couldn't happen without you all.

I'm still working out the details for next moth's match, so stand by on that. Feel free to post what targets you have to offer (material type and dimensions) on this page so we can get a inventory for the next match.

Again, if you have any questions, comments, or suggestions please let me know. Your input is what will make these matches better, so don't hold back.
