Re: Woodstock 1969

Nice, Kraig.

Would liked to have participated, but, unfortunately, I had a UH-1H strapped to my ass at the time.

Well, if you didn't cram a gerbal up their or there before ya strapped the Huey on than you probably wouldn't have enjoyed the other "Woodstock" either!!

......or did the gerbals come later???.....hate getting older and not being able to remember what important stuff was 60's, what was 70's, what was 80's....and after that too.

My Grandma was there when she was 14. I so badly wish I was alive back then. Music nowadays sucks!

Re: Woodstock 1969

Maser, yes, the music nowadays does suck.

Not gonna make any political comments here.

I did what I thought I needed to do.

I did it. I did it to the best of my ability and I came home.

A lot of my friends didn't.

Now whether you agree or disagree upon that which was my choice matters nought to me, for, you see, it was my choice, not yours. So, therefore, there is no room for discussion or argument.

That is why I did what I did, so that you can elect to do the things that you feel are good and honorable and those things for which you would put your life in jeopardy.

May God grant all of you peace, love, happiness and long life, regardless of what you believe or support.

I'm assuming all that was related to the song I embedded. Nothing to do with politics on my end or even war in general. I just posted that song because it's always been my most memorable performance anytime I watch '69 Woodstock. Guess it's the idea of calling 1/2 million audience members "fuckers" that gets to me.

And of course there's this one too.

Spade, Im of that generation, though I didnt go to the RVN. Personally I thought the war was wrong, and a waste of some 60,000 young lives. But I do respect the decision of my brothers who went, and am thankful for each one, because I know that most of you believed in what you were about. Since Maser opened the can of worms, this was one of my favorite songs from thatconcert.

I don't even like The Beatles, but this guy did a great remake of the song.

Re: Woodstock 1969

I watched it all on TV trying to get a glimpse of my uncle who was serving in the TRIM detachment in Da Nang. He did not one, but two tours there, then came back to his friends spitting on him, calling him names and other shit. He thought he was a hippy when he left, but he was just one more Cali country boy doing what needed to be done and has been done by generations of a family. As to the hippies, fuck them. They sucked then, they suck now, and they will always suck. Johnny killed himself back in '75 because hippies suck and Vet's were sent home with no support back then. I got to lose an uncle from that hellhole and what hippy fucks did to them when they came back.

To the guys who were there, I have two things I ALWAYS say when I meet them in my daily movements around wherever, and it applies here as well:

Welcome Home sir, and thank you for your service.

M14's however are still cool, will always be cool, and so far have still done a hell of a job serving our troops as DMR's in their Sage EBR, Troy Industries, and other modern stocks

Yes an no,
Driving one in 1965, after that wonderful start to the day was over, the Old Man an First shirt gave me want you see as my logon. I was half assed then, but got a little better with age.
Sold my last one, a real deal H&R that was on it's 17th barrel. Receiver had stretched beyond want I was comfortable shooting any more. When she was hot she would blow Winchester cases.
The M14 family an I go way back, issued an carried every M14 variant Uncle had in inventory back then. They never let me down anywhere on this rock, no matter what mother had to offer. -38* below or +125*, in the river, mud, sand, ice or snow, they all ran.
Knife, Fork an Spoon to me.

Re: Woodstock 1969

That was 45 years ago for me. My biggest fear back then was getting drafted.

No body in my family ever got drafted, it was considered a discrase, akin to being forced to serve your country, being dragged screaming and kicking.

My father was a vet of WWII and Korea. All my uncles were WWII Vets, my mother was a Rosie Reveter making B-17s and B-29s.

Both my brothers went to Vietnam, I got 4 sons and a stepson that signed up, All but one is still in the reserve or NG, The one thats no longer in retired from the Navy last OCT.

My wife is a 70% Disabled Vet from a broken back she got at the first of this war.

You enlisted because that was your duty.

Hippys or an "ungrateful government" wont sway my family.

I have no regrets, I'm of the 74% of Vietnam Vets that would do it again, even knowing the outcome. I'm too old not but I joined the Patriot Riders so I can do my part to help prevent todays soldiers from facing the BS I got when I came home.

Some of the proudest moments of my life is, as an retired officer, I was able to swear in all my wife and all my kids either as they enlisted or re-enlisted.

Re: Woodstock 1969

When I first saw the title a couple days ago, I thought, What the Fuck is this and didnt click. Now that I took a second to read it, I have some dust in my eye from reading Kraigs last post. Him and Gunfighter always have some good things to say.

Thanks to all those who have served, and those who are now. This country wouldnt be the same without men of your cut.

I joined and the first mission was the toughest. I thought it would get easier, and to a point, it has. Each time I have gone to stand by a door with a flag in hand because I didn't have a class, I have always considered just how lucky I am that it is me standinbg there respectfully, diligently, holding that small token of pride and appreciation for both the family and teh warrior

Ours either, everyone stepped up long before, and a member of our family has been in every war from Plymouth rock. We still have the dirt in Ohio that G. Washington gave the family(Ashil Murdock) for having a leg blown off by a cannon ball in the Rev war.

Being RA, we were often the butt of jokes when in the minority. That said many times TDY I learned the guys that you could depend on the most were US, over NG.
On TDY with the 5th, I learned the bulk of those were US, an the bulk of that group were college grads. Working with those guys is were I learned the end game could be decided by thinking prior to, and they learned how to get there quietly an w/o leaving much sign.

After debrief the conversations always returned to home, schooling/learning, an after Uncle pursuits. The bulk of those guys were very talented but when it came to catching an cooking from the A/O, I think they were all raised on take out.
