I started off by searching the database and found most people recommend the Lucas bore guide. I figured this would be a great guide for my Ai Ae Mk3. I sent him an email and he replied saying he was not taking orders currently and check back with him around 6-1-2012.

I will probably contact him when that comes around but for now is there another brand to purchase?

I am not new to shooting but this is my first precision rifle. I should never have listened to people telling me a M1a was a precision peace

Re: Bore guide help

I am happy with the cleaning rod and bore guide I just received from J.Dewey Mfg.for my TRG. Good people to deal with and fast shipping.

Re: Bore guide help

Don't waste your time waiting for Lucas or paying through the roof. Get yourself a Possum Hollow bore guide for 1/4 the price. It works great and if people are honest with you, its every bit as good.

Re: Bore guide help

I will start with calling Mile High again. I already have some stuff they should be shipping tomorrow. Might be able to get one added to the order if they have them.

Re: Bore guide help

Yes Mile High had them in stock. I got one on the way. Thanks guys.

Re: Bore guide help

Just sent Mile high an email. Hopefully they will have one for the Gap-10. If not I will look for the Possum.

Nothing wrong with Possum Hollow....but you can't compare them to the Lucas design - chalk and cheese.

PH don't have the insert that fits over the rod...nor are they matched to your rod diameter, bolt diameter or chamber dimensions. They are generic.

Lucas is four times the price, and the end that fits into the chamber is the same size as the rod itself and causes no issues. Lots of people like to waste money on things like that, I'd rather buy more ammo and shoot.

Do Possum Hollow guides have different rod diameter versions?

Re: Bore guide help

I know that the tip that inserts into the chamber for my .308 is very tight around the jag. It is definitely larger at the insertion end. I just know that once the jag gets to the chamber, there is zero play and it is very tight. So when I push the rod all the way through, there is no play at all. It is not one fits all in sizing, you have to look up your rifle and order the correct size. I'm sure Lucas makes a quality product, but I can't see it being any better nor can I see any advantage to it. I know it costs more money to use aluminum instead of the plastic injection molding on the Possum, and there is definitely more labor involved. Again, to each his own. if I was rich, I might spend the money, but I have had nothing but excellent results with Possum and the price is rite.

Re: Bore guide help

I also use a tipton rod, so I'm not sure how much thicker/thinner that rod is compared to a dewey steel rod.

Re: Bore guide help

Mike Lucas uses Delrin, not aluminium.

No offence intended, but the more I read your posts and opinions on the Lucas, the more I think you are basing your comments on the wrong product.

Sorry, but I have to take exception here.
The Lucas is not four times as expensive.
The Lucas is Delrin (you may be thinking of TK Nolan as they are S/S & alloy).
The Lucas is custom made around your rod, action and caliber.
The inserts are most definitely worth the extra $$, as they really cut down on rod flexing.
Lots of people "waste money" on them because they are the very best on the market.
No, I don't get sponsored by Lucas. Nor am I a relative. I just "waste money" on them and know they are worth it.
This I know because I also have some by Possum Hollow.

Re: Bore guide help

Again, personal preference. The Possum does the same job for cheaper and I have no flex on my rod. Using the lucas won't clean my gun faster or better, just take more money from my wallet.
