Hi Everyone! Just 'pulled the trigger' on a Remington 700 milspec 5r today! After reading about them on this site I figured this would be a good starter rifle for me. I just got back into shooting last year & so far have just bought & shot my handguns. It should be here in a few days & then the 10 day waiting period ( Kalifornia )... Got it from Buds Guns... Anyway, thanks for all the help in my decision process! Bill

Nice rifle! Sorry to hear about the wait. When you get her in, post some pics so we can all drool over her.

LOL

Check the tension on the stock, I used 65in-lb. Mine loves FGMM 175s or 168s. It will shoot either .5 moa. It also loves FGMM brass, CCI BR2 primers, with 45 Varget under a 175SMK, this has shot lots of groups in the .2s and .3s. The average group in my rifle for all 100 yard groups fired, including load development, is .6moa.

This one is mine!

I paid $875.00 for mine but it was barely used and came with a NF 20 MOA mount.

I now have low rings on it as the mediums in the photo were all I had at the time.

You may not like the X-Mark pro trigger as the vaunted adjustability will only take it down to around three pounds. If you go to "Ernie the gunsmith" you can get a replacement trigger adjustment spring which can bring the trigger pull weight to as low as 2.25 lbs. The site also includes detailed instructions for safely replacing this little spring. It is simple in the extreme.

Thanks for all the replies! ; )... Geary, Ok? I sent 2 months in Bethany around Christmas time. Think Geary is sort a close? Oh, it's a .308, I read where they also have the 700 5r in .300 wm & .338 but .308 ammo cost is more in my league! Australia is a 2 month wait! Wow!... I'll let you know about break in on the bolt. Tension on the stock? Ahhh, I'm a newbee so stock tension is above my head! I'll ask some questions on that when I get it... For ammo I have some Federal Match Grade in 168 & 175 Grain & got in on a group buy on this forum. South something? I was going to ask what's an inexpensive ammo for just shooting cans, blocks of ice, that sort of stuff? Or did I already get the inexpensive stuff? LOL... I'm also putting together a AR10 in .308. Wow! Beautiful rifle in the pic! Hummm, maybe I should a bought used?

... But I don't know enough about guns to check out a used one... .3 MOA? This rifle is going to be a lot more accurate than I am!
