I just got word that my new 6.5x47 Lapua is on its way to me from the gunsmith. I've got 200 new Lapua brass and 140 vld's, 130vld's, 140 amax's, and 123 amax's that I'd like to try in it. Let me know if you have any good loads or good places to start.

Thanks,
Bb

Re: 6.5x47 Lapua loads?

Theres a whole thread on 6.5 loads... But ill give you a head start.

Lapua Brass
RL17 (42.0gr) Work up slowly...
SRM primer
123 Scenar or AMAX

Approx 3000 FPS in a 24 inch Shilen Match

The 140's are alittle heavy for the little 6.5x47. go with the 130s or 123s

Re: 6.5x47 Lapua loads?

130gr JLK
41.7gr H4350
CCI BR4
at 2.850"

doing 2925fps from my 26" 8 twist Hart. This particular load shoots well under 0.50moa at 200 from my rifle and a buddy's 6.5L (although I think he was using a CCI 450 primer). I love the JLK v Berger for targets: (1) cheaper, (2) tighter meplat = better BC, (3) more consistent piece to piece (in the 25pcs of each that I evaluated).

Good luck with the new rifle!

Re: 6.5x47 Lapua loads?

123 scenar
37.4 gr RE15
loaded to 2.718"
26" Krieger
2900 fps
all groups under .25" at 100 (best .08")

*I am going to work up one for the 130 vld.

Re: 6.5x47 Lapua loads?

Thanks,

The tracking # says it'll be here today. I'm going to start with the 123 Amaxes and RL-15. I'll be trying H4350 and 130&140 vlds soon too. I'm hoping for 3000 with the 123's.

Re: 6.5x47 Lapua loads?

My Load:
140 VLD
42.1 RE-17
CCI 450 COAL 2.8"
2869 FPS average w/ ES of 13 and SD of 4
Temp was 39*
Sub 1/2 MOA @ 100
22" barrel
I plan on loading it down as the temp goes up.
With 4350 the best I could get was 2630 FPS before i started to get pressure signs.
140 A-Maxes 15 FPS faster with the same load but group size was 3/4 MOA. I just loaded up some more with different seating depths. Gonna see if that will tighten up the groups

Re: 6.5x47 Lapua loads?

My go to load for 6.5L for the last three barrels has been
130 Berger VLDs
34.8 g Varget
CCI BR-4 primers

Yes this is not a fast load (~2750 fps) but it is always accurate, my current barrel has about 1,000 rounds on it and I shot my first benchrest match at 600 yards last weekend. 5 of the 8 5 shot groups were under 1/2 MOA one measured 1.47", I was happy to shoot a 1/4 MOA group. The groups that were greater than .5 MOA had about 80% of the dispersion in the horizontal, the vertical was usually under 1".

Long story short I was happy with the way the gun still shoots. Those are the first groups ever shot with that barrel I shoot F-class so only worry about score not group size I am amzed that this load has been so consistent over 3 barrels and temps from 0 to 90.

Re: 6.5x47 Lapua loads?

Has anyone found any publications on starting loads with varying powders for this caliber? I've looked but no luck.

What bullet do you want to use?

Shoot me a PM and I'll give you a hand developing the load quickly.

Re: 6.5x47 Lapua loads?

I tried it but wasn't so happy. The best was 0.5MOA at 100m with 139gr Lapua Scenar, 28" Border, I am about to try N540.

When I first got a 6.5x47 I tried N550 and Varget. Found loads with both that shot equally well. Went with Varget simply because it is usuall easier to find locally, so if I get in a bind I can usually find it in town.

With that said, if I had a lot of it, I would definately use it in the x47.

Re: 6.5x47 Lapua loads?

....and Lapua designed the round to run on N550. See Vhitovouri propellant data for 6.5x47Lapua.
