Looking to order a GAP-10 when my bonus comes in and I already started researching glass... I was thinking I put on my H59 HDMR on it, but I'm not gonna need 24x magnification and then leave my bolt gun scopeless and start researching for that one

so I started thinking maybe I can get something that's about 10x mag max which should let me reach out to a 1000 no problem? (thoughts on that?)

My question actually was about tube size... I'm accustomed to 50mm, and never really looked through a smaller one(besides my acog) so I was curious how a something like 32mm would fair in longer distances.

I don't think I'll be shooting past 1000 with this thing, and that's a seldom range for it. I will be most likely hitting steel at 500 yards AT most and shoot 1000 couple times a year

I was thinking maybe NF in 32mm or something in that area.

suggestions?

under 1000 would be a real nice treat, and I'm willing to go used if I must, but I guess cough up the extra dough somehow because we all know the buy once cry once thing

also thought about one of those weaver tactical scopes, I heard great things about them.

Re: Suggestion for GAP-10 glass

hey, I also have been doing some research on this exact same question. my next purchase will be a precision ar10.

that being said if money was no deal, the new or soon to released?? not sure but the USO 1-10 would be very hot combo.

after that I would look very hard at the NF 2.5-10, I was checking one out at sportsmans warehouse last night and it is a sweet scope.

for cheaper there are several 1-4 scopes out there that not look bad. the new luppy 1-4 Vx r I think looks good as well as the swfa one.

I not sure yet which I will go with, but it will prob be the NF if I can get one for a decent price.

good luck,
DT

Re: Suggestion for GAP-10 glass

Right, there are some great 1-4 scopes but i don't think it's enough for long distance or a very accurate placement shot (think t-zone) within 200-300 yards that the rifle is cabaple of

that's why I'd like 10 or so. Wouldn't complain if it was 15.

Also I don't care much about 1x. I'll most likely add a micro red dot of some kind at an angle for unexpected cqb

so you think 34mm objective is sufficient? How about less likw 24 or 27?

Re: Suggestion for GAP-10 glass

Not really in your 1k budget but if you wanna spend more then take a look at Schmidt and Bender's 3-12x50. Perfect for your application and the quality of the glass is pretty damn good.

Not sure if a 32mm objective is going to give you what you need at the distances that you're looking to achieve. I'm no expert but the lower the objective the less you can see at distance.

You should also take a gander at the Super Sniper and Vortex variable scopes. I haven't used them myself but some on hear swear by them.

Good luck.

exactly what I want but I will never be able to get that. It's way too much money for me. I have to be realistic.

maybe I'll take 2? I would prefer something smaller though.

Re: Suggestion for GAP-10 glass

I'd watch the for sale section and put a SS 5-20 on it.....non illuminated for close to 1000 and illuminated maybe a 150 more. I've got a USO 3.2-17 on my POF 308 but have the SS on a DMR 5.56 and it is a good scope for at or near $1000. I had a USO 1.8-10 on the POF originally but found myself wanting more mag. The 10x is fine for steel at the ranges you want to shoot but I preferred the higher mag for more orecision and seeing my splashes better. Just my personal'preference.

Re: Suggestion for GAP-10 glass

I run a S&B 4-16x42 and find it to be a great combination. Not specifically the scope but the size. I will be trying out the 5-25x56 when my mount gets here this week but it will be heavy. I like magnification so YMMV

Re: Suggestion for GAP-10 glass

In your price range, USO ST-10 with a 37mm objective would be the ticket for a range rifle.
If you will be hunting with it, then I would suggest a variable power scope.

When I took steps to lighten my AR 308 I sold my 3-18 IOR for a 2.5-10 IOR. After shooting awhile I somewhat regret it and am looking pretty hard at the new bushnell 3-21 with gap reticule (top of my budget) plus some other scopes. If I had bucks...3-12 S&B or Kahles, maybe 4-16 S&B, Nightforce F1...

At the end of the day a bit more mag than 10 and a parallax knob are nice to have.

Right...

It's not like the HDMR is a long scope or anything. it's beefy, but not long or anything, it's actually compact

Maybe before I decide on a scope I'll put my HDMR on the Gap-10 and see how it works out, if it does, I'll get a gap version for the gap10 (no pun.. lol) and put the H59 back on my bolt gun.

Still will be looking at other options though. see what I can find in the meantime.

Re: Suggestion for GAP-10 glass

Bushnell has 2 new scopes available in June - July a 3-12x44 and a 6.5x24x50 they are both 30mm tubes and front focal plane MIL/MIL knobs and have the G2 DMR reticle.

both will fit inot your budjet as they are both under $1000

Re: Suggestion for GAP-10 glass

I have had mine for about a year and chose a Nightforce F1 for my first precision rifle and am extremely happy with it. It is probably overkill for the rifle but I am not under scoped for sure!

Re: Suggestion for GAP-10 glass

mine is goin to get a F1, vortex razor, or S&B 4-16 you cannot overglass something quality wise. those guns will shoot will shoot with most bolt guns so put on the glass you want.

Re: Suggestion for GAP-10 glass

Give the IOR 1.5-8x cqb scope a look, I have one and love it.

Glass is very high quality and is tough as nails. A bit heavy though and priced a bit above 1k.

Re: Suggestion for GAP-10 glass

While it's not a GAP, I put a Zeiss conquest with the Z1000 reticle on a DPMS LR308, IMO they work well together.

+1

I like these choice over the HDMR... in my opinion.
