Anyone with experience working with a M70 Pre '64 CRF Magnum Long Action?

I'm starting to lay out the plans for a build and I'm just looking for anyone that's done it already.

I also shoot a Pre-64 M70. Can you share any pictures of your work online?

I have a pre-64 in the works right now. I'm doing mine in 6.5x55. I figured why waste the long action. McM A3 AI compatible DBM, all the fun stuff.

Here is one completed in January.

Talk to Jim about what you want, over the last 5 years I have had Jim install maybe 20 barrels for me and all of those guns competed very well. Jim does the barreling on 3 of the top 5 F-class shooters in MN, so he does good work.

Yes, the gun he showed is expensive, I saw that gun about 4 times in different stages and it is a work of art. He also builds guns that you will be able to afford and not cry when it gets dropped. I highly recommend his 6.5 x 47 L reamer as it is proven performer for a number of people me include.

    Just my 2 cents,

That is one classy rifle. You should be very proud of that work and whoever owns it, keep it.

    Re: M70 Pre 64 Actions

My pre-64 model 70 is with Mike Bush @ Underground Skunkworks at the moment getting a makeover. Started with a featherweight chambered in .243. Will be getting a 20" Bartlein tube in .308, McM HTG adjustable stock, and Williams bottom metal. All topped with a NightForce 5.5-22x56. It's been 8 months so it shouldn't be long. I'll post pictures when it's done.

I have a pre war Winchester Action George at GAP turned into a very nice 6.5x284. I'll try and post a pic.

Are you sure you don't mean M70 Classic rather than an action mf'd prior to 1964?

The "LA" in your question is what has me asking. Back that far, there was only one action length.

At the time I posted, I wasn't aware of all Pre64 actions being "long"...but it is indeed a Pre and its got the magnum bolt face.

I'm thinking it will be a nice mix of old and new to let this baby ride in an XLR Evolution.
