Anyone here use this program? Frankly, I learned all my basics from this program. I don't know other's opinions on it, but I would highly recommend it to any of the people lurking around the forum who are looking to get into long range shooting and learning the bare bones and basics of the sport.

Here is a link if interested:

Re: ShooterReady Long Range shooting simulator.

I bought the program. It fills the void when I can't get out to shoot for long periods. I just wish that the wind could fluctuate, like the real world.

Re: ShooterReady Long Range shooting simulator.

Give it a try with MilDot master. It works well. You can even run it through your Strelok etc.

Re: ShooterReady Long Range shooting simulator.

I use it with the mildot master and Shooter app. I just wish it had more stages/targets for 308.

It’s worth the investment and will get you started. It’s a good tool to use when you cant make it out to the range.

Re: ShooterReady Long Range shooting simulator.

I love this product! I try to hit it once every couple of days just to keep the ballistic circuits firing in my grape. I've tried contacting Karin Christensen a couple of times about this app because I am finishing up a software development book and am looking for my next project. I'm considering a rewrite that would be an HTML5 web-based application. So far she has not responded. If I don't hear from her before my book hits the printers then I may just do it on my own though that is not my preference. So much work has gone into her product and it has such a great reputation that I'd prefer to partner and build on her work.

I think that while this app is good it could be better. For instance:
- use your own load/rifle data
- use any current reticle on the market
- variable power scope
- more training information and/or integration with training videos
- saved stages for comparison/progress tracking
- the list goes on and on

This would be designed to work on the desktop/laptop (Mac or Win), the iPad (all versions), iPhone, and Android platforms. Does anyone think this would sell as an online subscription-based product? Not sure but ball parking $4.00 per month to be comparable with a $45-$50 she currently sells the software for. Probably not less since it would be a hell of a big project. No upgrades, just continuous improvements and starting with a product similar to the Flash based current version.

If this kicks off and there is anyone here interested in consulting, please PM me. Looking at getting started in 3-6 months, depending on other schedules and general interest in the product.

Axshon,
I'd buy it! Portable shooter ready type app on my phone....all over it.

Re: ShooterReady Long Range shooting simulator.

I would have to dig through my email but I corresponded with Stewart several years ago about the options of adding your own data like BC, fps, adjust altitude, etc. and he said it was possible but the final cost of the product would be prohibitive and that he wanted to keep it at its current design with small changes as the program progressed. Don't know if that has changed but he seemed pretty set on it.

Re: ShooterReady Long Range shooting simulator.

Stewart is the original developer, right? Anyway, I finally got in contact with Karin Christensen and she is pretty adamant that the software will stay on its current platform (Flash). I also offered to purchase the entire application in order to extend its codebase etc. Not interested. Not sure but I think I may have offended. Hope not; its a great product and I have nothing but praise for it.

Anyway, I'll continue to work up some basic requirements and run some proofs for the high risk areas. That should be enough to build a solid estimate of the work to get it to market. Then I'll ping the folks here to see if there is interest in it as a subscription based product.

Also considering a prepper product and some others. Don't know which will be the most attractive financially when my schedule clears.

Re: ShooterReady Long Range shooting simulator.

The Long Range Shooting Simulation is something that I have utilized for as long as it has been available.
As a tool to learn the mechanics of utilizing a mil-dot scope it is outstanding. Additionally, a shooter & spotter can utilize it to smooth out their communication and verify that both are on the same page. I sat next to my grand daughter on the computer while we worked shooter/spotter interaction for a couple of sessions before ever going to the range. When we did go to the range she already knew the mechanics, so we were simply fine tuning our communication. She was hitting and communicating and making accurate corrections right from the beginning.

The down side I see to the program is that it has not made any real improvement over the last 10? years. Sure, there have been a couple of updates to the program but it has the same basic look & feel (and limitations) as it had back many years ago.
For that reason it has a very narrowly focused audience.
Honestly it feels like a DOS based program in a windows world.

I've completed all the stages... in my opinion it's a good tool, I 've also put data in FFS and the ballistic solution was almost perfect

Re: ShooterReady Long Range shooting simulator.

I have used the Shooter Ready simulation for about a month now. I love it, I have only shot a 22LR with a fixed power scope. I have learned a great deal. I am amazed at how precise you need to be. On the 12" targets .1 is not precise enough. You need to be precise to .05, particularly as the range increases.

I have also forgot to reset my turrets to zero many times resulting in misses. The bullet splash feature is nice for corrections. I have learned that the larger targets don't require as much precision in measuring.

For new and aspiring long range shooters, I would recommend the program. Finally, it is fun and challenging.
