does anyone have one of these svd clones i have been thinking of getting one but all the stuff i read about them is it could be a hit or miss so anyone with info on these please share ur thoughts

Re: psl rifles

They arent a clone of an SVD. They just happen to look similar. The SVD uses a different gas stroke system and is much more accurate.

The PSL is an AKM with a long barrel and different stock. Plain and simple. If you can actually put hands on the rifle at a gun show etc, and it all checks out and looks good, I say go for it. Ordering online when you cant inspect the rifle yourself will be hit or miss with any milsurp rifle IMO.

YMMV, but IIRC PSL's are 4-6 MOA rifles whereas SVD's can be expected to shoot 2-4. This may be totally off, this is just what I have read.

Re: psl rifles

I am aware they are not clones but some people dnt know what a psl or a romak are but they know what a svd is so its easier to call it that so they know what I'm talking about and I have had the pleasure of shooting a real svd also I have shot a psl they shot about the same with the svd shooting just a little better, I just would like to know more about the one put together by century the psl I shot was a norinko

Re: psl rifles

The biggest problem with the PSL-54s, ROMAKs, FPKs, or whatever the hell they're calling them now; is the optic.

If you get one with a LPS/PSOP optic, figure out which one you have, sell it to a collector and have someone fabricate you a quality mount and get a modern scope on there.

Even these cheap guns have gotten close to 1MOA from various folks with better quality ammo. Keep your eyes open for 7N1/7N14 marked ammo, typical surplus light ball doesn't really do the trick.

Re: psl rifles

Put a TWS dogleg rail on it for conventional mounting and have Rifle Dynamics do their psl package. That would be about as good as you could get it.

Bulgy surplus mainly. 2650fps velocity so not a hot load.

I would only buy the PSL if you want one for collecting purposes. If you are looking for a rifle to shoot a fair amount with or a platform to 'invest in' (ie going to upgrade the trigger, optics, handload for it) get something else.
