A friend bought his fiancee a new suv this week. On friday afternoon as she was getting out of it and noticed a piece of platic between the driver seat and center consle. Pulling it out she realized it was a small size ziplock bag with a white rough textured substance in it. Not sure what it was she sent my friend a picture of it. He was on the way home so called the police and asked them to meet him at the house. He then gave me a call and I stopped for a beer because I wasnt going to miss my opportunity to drop a Bobby Brown joke and try to entice the officer to haul his ass off to jail.
The officer showed and asked if we knew what It was. Being that our only experience with crack was seeing it on episodes of Cops, we werent much help. He searched the vehicle, filled a report and took the bag to be destroyed.
After talking about what had just happened over a beer, we considered how bad that could of been. The officer said that would have likely gotten her 30 days in jail had she been in possession of the substance. She would have lost her job as they have a notolerance policy. Lawyer fees. Their wedding is in May so, an out of town bachlorette party, bridal shower and wedding and honeymoon which are all mostly paid for would possibly be have been missed.
Financially it could have cost them alot of money.
He is malling over if he should hold the dealership responsible? He is not looking to sue but would like them to be accountable. They offered to take the vehicle back and detail it which he took as an insult being its brand new. He uses the dealer for both his personal vehicles and his company vehicles.
How do you think the dealership should handle this?

Re: New vehicle sold with complimentary bag of crack

Send the crack back to the factory. The poor UAW worker will want it back.

"UAW members caught using drugs, again"

"Last September, a Detroit television station caught a group of Union Auto Workers from Chrysler’s Jefferson North Assembly Plant (JNAP) smoking marijuana and drinking alcohol during a break and once again, JNAP employees are in the hot seat for drug use on the job."

Re: New vehicle sold with complimentary bag of crack

Not much that really should be done about it. Yes, it could have caused all kinds of issues; but, how is holding the dealership responsible going to solve anything? It could have been left in there by just about anyone; test drive, the guy who brought it to the dealership, someone finding the door open...could be just be about anyone to include a salesman. I would have taken the free detail and left it at that.

Re: New vehicle sold with complimentary bag of crack

I'd be suspicious of the guy offering the free detail. Could be there's more in the vehicle and he wants it back.

Re: New vehicle sold with complimentary bag of crack

High Binder, nice artical makes you wonder if this happens more than you think. Guess no one does random drug testing anymore.
The sales manager who offered the free detail recommended calling the police and trying to get a k9 to go through it. I'v bought several vehicles from him and he is a good guy to deal with.
I was of your opinions, call it a close miss, take the suv to be detailed next time it needs it and throw a mention of the incident to the sales manager when he's hagling over the price on the next purchase he makes there. I doubt that will stop him from buying there.

or sell the crack and buy a new rifle

Re: New vehicle sold with complimentary bag of crack

Its NOT mentioned in the posting... But I would call a K-9 officer and have a dog do a free air search and see if it hits on the vehicle...

With the dealership wanting the car back to detail it, I agree that there COULD be something else in it.. A person search can be good but the K-9 can be alerted to what a person CAN NOT find.

I have seen/been in some drug interdiction courses and you would be VERY SUPRISED how detailed they can be when modifying compartments in vehicles to LOOK and WORK like factory but with combinations of switches and buttons being turned, a hidden compartment will open.

Play it safe and have a drug dog work the vehicle over to have a COMPLETE peace at mind.

Re: New vehicle sold with complimentary bag of crack

I asked a police buddy of mine yesterday what he thought the street value of it was. I was amazed when told me it wouldnt have covered the bar tab for me and the wife on a weekend. Guess every drug has its demographic and it is named after an ahole.

That seems like a good idea. You could have them do it at the dealership.

Now on to a personal story.
When Chevrolet moved some manufacturers plants down to Mexico they were transporting them up on rail cars to the border then at the border they would be loaded onto the transports. We got this top of the line all the bells and whistles Suburban in that looked like there were a family of illegals that lived in it for a week or more. It was FILTHY dirty. Not the kind of dirty a ranch hand would make this but the greasy, body odor, filth nasty kinda' nasty. It had several full gallons of urine in milk jugs all through this thing and tons of food wrappers. It was a mess. We tried to clean it up but you just could not get the smell out of it even with smoke machines, ionizers, and chemicals. What a waste. The thing stickered for $65K. We NEVER got anything like this from Canada or when they were made here in the U.S. So yes it could absolutely not be the dealership that did this BUT just like if YOU were in the vehicle it was your responsibility if ANYTHING is in that car. I will let you in on a little secret. They will do ANYTHING you want if you don't go to the media. <--- That was a hint.

Re: New vehicle sold with complimentary bag of crack

They could have ran the dog around the car, but he would just indicate on it. Due to drugs having already been in the car, the dog will still pick up on the scent. The only other thing they could do if they called a K-9 out is let him inside the vehicle to check it. You'd be suprised how many times car dealers let sales employeed drive new cars home. I once saw a new BMW sitting inside a p-lot of a hip-hop club one night. It had a dealer tag on it, we waited until the driver came out of the club to see what the deal was. He sure enough worked for the dealer as a salesman, and was just driver the car around. The same car was back at the same club a week or two later, and we had a rival gang shooting. The sales guy wasn't involved, but none the less the place was a known gang issue.

Re: New vehicle sold with complimentary bag of crack

Ran on an accident on the highway here once where an older gentleman had rolled a car. While the highway patrol was going through the car to find the registration and insurance they came across a bag of marijauna. They asked the guy that was driving about it and he got offended. It was a rental car and apparently a previous renter had left it under the seat. Small amount and the highway patrol didn't charge him with it. I always look in the console, glovebox, and under the seat of rental cars now!

Re: New vehicle sold with complimentary bag of crack

The dealership was begging him not to go to the media when he called to tell them what happened.

The officer that came out to pick up the crack up and file the report had a k9 with him. He didnt feel that there was anything else in the vehicle and didnt want to take the chance on his dog messing up the brand new vehicle. He figured it fell out of someones pocket. He gave them a report number on the back of his card and told them to keep it with the registration incase anything ever comes up.

Re: New vehicle sold with complimentary bag of crack

It's funny how people leave there stuff around or don't notice it being gone. Maybe that is a side affect of being high.

I used to work at a bank. One day, someone came in to do a deposit and left a pill bottle on the check writing station. Turned out it had a fair amount of marijuana in it. Cops came and took it.

I have yet to find the great find in something I bought, but I figure if I buy enough stuff, I'll find something some day.

Re: New vehicle sold with complimentary bag of crack

Why is this in Maggie's?
It's not funny at all.

Re: New vehicle sold with complimentary bag of crack

This a perfect example as to why you should never permit a search of your vehicle if you are ever requested for your permission to search. The old "sure, go ahead I have nothing to hide" attitude can and will come back to BITE you big time. To bad but there is no way to explain your way out of it with a LEO without the expense of an attorney and possible jail time. I sell real estate, over the years you can imagine how many people may have been the back seat of my car. There is a local car wash that employs half way or work release felons, think of them in your back seat washing the rear window. Not me.

Wow, he could have a nice little side business there.

Re: New vehicle sold with complimentary bag of crack

The last vehicle I bought had a nice fat doobie tucked underneath the headliner. I kept getting a faint wiff of it and finally decided that there was a significant amount of Mary Jane somewhere in the truck. I bought some sound deadner and killed two birds with one stone by gutting the interior, disposing of the hippy lettuce, and eliminating most of the road noise....
