I've been thinking I suck at shooting paint cans at what I thought was 200yds but after shooting my .308 which is a 3/8in @100yds gun I noticed the shot was way low so I used my GPS from my phone to actually see how far it was and after checking 3 times I still thought it was wrong so I looked on google earth and It's actually 285yds which would explain why I have such a hard time hitting those cans so I started on google earth and found out that the distance is actually 285yds. Good news is I can hit about 7/10 on a 8in target out of my 14yr old Savage Model 62. My tr should be here today and hopefully I can do better with that.

Re: what are your groups at 300yds?

I don't know if you need a range finder, anyone know how accurate that is?

I have a hard time getting a refection past 250 yards with mine. It's a $200 Bushnell.

Re: what are your groups at 300yds?

I have a hard time getting anything past 220. I did get a miracle hit at 295 once. Seems you have to get a $500 range finder to get past 300.

Re: what are your groups at 300yds?

I can get to 1400 meters but I have leica geovids

you gets what you pays for

Re: what are your groups at 300yds?

I have the bushnell arc 1600 and it is scary accurate from the things that I have measured and to known distances. I have got readings out to 1200 yards so far. But other people on the board say they have got out to 1700 yards withe the same model

Re: what are your groups at 300yds?

Yesterday was my first time shooting 300 with my 10/22. Ended up being a very crappy day to shoot, wind started gusting about 20mph right after we got there. Ended up ordering an EGW 20MOA base today, with my elevation dialed all the way up I was still about 40" low. When the wind would calm down getting 8/10 hits on the 10" gong was no problem. Going to take the bench out next time as my hood doesn't make a very stable platform.

302 yards to the gong.

Re: what are your groups at 300yds?

sleepymonkey & others, what ammo do you prefer to use for 150-200+ yds?

I ventured out to 205yds for the first time this past weekend on a slightly windy day using my bipod and no rear rest laying awkwardly etc. I normally use CCI SV & Wolf MT for within 100yds. Being that I still wanted to use my magnification & don't have an EGW base I just used Federal 36g bulk. At 40X my scope's elevation is maxed, but right about on at 205yds. I was shooting a door from a computer tower & most of my shots were centered within 10-12" dia. I look forward to working on it a bit on a calm day with a better mount.

Very impressive what you guys are doing & I'm interested in justifying putting the EGW base on to go further out but I'd like to tighten my groups up at 200yds before venturing further.

i use a dip base. its a must have for long range rimfire

Re: what are your groups at 300yds?

my new vortex scopes were to be delivered yesterday but I wasn't here so I should get them today and I ordered a DIP 25moa base it will be here hopefully this week and then I'm going to take some target pics sunday or monday maybe.

Re: what are your groups at 300yds?

i used bulk winchester m-22 and cci mini mags however it was to windy to see if the cci was truly much more accurate at that range but i would assume it would be.

Re: what are your groups at 300yds?

So I caught the bug & put a DIP 25MOA base on! Having a blast playing from 200-300yds

However to others with the DIP 25MOA base, how far out can you go until you have to use an overhold? Using CCI Blazer bulk it seems that my max distance with a dead hold is still only about 240-250 yds @ 40X. Then around 300yds I have to back way out to 10-16X and use a large holdover to get it on target.

I have the same rangefinder, have got readings up to 1830yds before. The conditions have to be absolutely perfect, slightly cloudy, not much sun, and held very stable.

I have their 20MOA base on my Sako Quad and with subsonic ammo (WMT), I run out of elevation adjustment at 427 yards with a Leupy 16x Mark-4

Re: what are your groups at 300yds?

This is at 330 yards. I mislabled the target and its actually Blazer not Green Tag.

Plenty of shots not on the target.

Re: what are your groups at 300yds?

I shoot 300yrds with my 10/22 tactical 16" and a bushnell 6500 2.5x16 tactical. I have a EGW 20 moa base and a shim (~30 MOA total) and I can dial ~50 MOA from my 50 yrd zero. (10/22 barrel sag sucks).

My gun likes wolf extra match, but mini-mags shot really well for the price too. I shoot at a 10 inch gong and average is 6/10 on most days wind dependent. Lots of fun to shot that distance

Hmmmm, I apologize to be off subject a little bit but must ask. I'm curious if I'm running out of elevation @ 250ish yds because I run my rings slammed as low as I can get them, even though I wouldn't want any higher because the cheek weld is perfect as is. Also it's just enough that I can still get my 50 yd zero.

Re: what are your groups at 300yds?

Here's a couple 1st shots at 225 (30 MOA), 300 (50 MOA), and we did get a 1st shot on a basketball size bush at 425 (90 MOA) using a 2x Barska on a Ruger 5.5" Mk. III. using Fed. Bulk. figuring .1 BC @ 1200 mv. Calcs were dead on the nose. After shooting 90 MOA i ran it back down to 25 MOA and nailed a 200 yd. 5" bush tgt. on a side hill 1st shot. Then back down to "0" dead-on. Not bad for a "POS" Barska. Shooting gps. at these ranges--i dare not--

Re: what are your groups at 300yds?

I finally got a chance to shoot my Marlin 980v .22lr @ 300yds
Rangefinder read 302 yds.

Marlin 980v, std weaver bases, grandslam rings
Tasco varmint/tactical mil dot 2.5-10x
Federal Lightning ($1.98/50) 1240fps (per box)

Off bipod, no rear bag

I have enough elevation in my scope to zero at 200, from there I was holding about 5.8 mils high for 300 yards.

I fired 1 7 shot group as light was fading. Wind from 1:00 to 2:00 @ 4-7mph, held 1 mil right.
7 shots-10" ctc, but one obvious flier Im attributing to a distinctly overpowered round. That round impacted 4" above the rest of the group. For the other 6 shots I had a 7" group that was about 6" wide and about 5" tall.

Overall I was very happy for the cheap ammo.

When I plug the data into my ballistic program I get pretty close to real-world data with a velocity of 1250fps and a bc of .125

I still need to bed/pillar bed the rifle, Ive got a DIP 25 MOA base on the way (damned awesome company from what Ive noticed) and then I'll try some actual "match" ammo.

Side note: My buddy and I found an AWESOME .22lr target/gong for all you other cheap bastards out there: standard round point metal shovel head. I had one with a broken handle, we whittled the handle to a spear about 3" below the metal, stabbed it in the ground convex-side to firing position. Being tempered it doesnt even dent, hits are very audible even at 310yds, and it measures about 9" wide by 11.5" tall. A little white spray paint and hits are easily visible at 310.

That is all,
Mike K

Re: what are your groups at 300yds?

C@:

That is a great idea on the shovel head...never thought of that! I actually have an old shovel sitting around just waiting for its new life as a .22LR 'steel'
Thanks man...
