Does anyone know how you can identify if a Remington 700 is a original Remington 700 KS model? The Remington 700 that I am trying to identify is in 280 Remington in a BDL synthetic (not plastic) stock which has the Remington crest as well on the cap part of the grip. The barrel is only marked 280 Rem, 96, and a few other small marks. Anyone know which model this is and who the manufacturer of the stock is?

Re: Remington 700 KS Identification help

If its a KS it should have a 24" barrel that is right at .60 at the muzzle. So its between a Mtn contour and a regular sporter. But the main thing to know about the real KS is they only came in ADL - not BDL so at least the stock isn't original unless somebody converted it.

Here is my KS in .280Rem. - its pretty much factory except I had Karl Feldkamp Ti flute the bolt. I bought this one new in 1992 and its sitting in a Brown Precision stock, later KS's came with McMillan stocks and IMHO one of the best stock patterns for a all out hunting rifle.

One other thing to look at, at least on most of the earlier rifles is the barrel should only have the caliber engraved on it, no Remington Arms and such, should be a clean barrel.
Hope this helps a little anyway.
