Sidearms & Scatterguns All-around 9mm Handgun

Re: All-around 9mm Handgun

I voted for the M&P, but if I could have the gun customized it would be the Hi-Power with a good trigger, extended safety and mag safety removed. A properly smithed Hi-power is a sweet piece. If I got the M&P I would want the Apex trigger. If the gun has to be stock, then we are back to the G17.

Re: All-around 9mm Handgun

I love the G17/19 but would go with the mp
I have abused the hell out of my glocks, they are they are the Aks of handguns.

Re: All-around 9mm Handgun

I love my P226. It's a great all around handgun. Also the only 9mm I own. I prefer .45acp

Re: All-around 9mm Handgun

glock 17/19 hands down. for the money, best bang for your buck

Re: All-around 9mm Handgun

I voted for the SIG p226 because it's a wonderfull gun with a great backing and reviews. Although it was a hard decision between this or the Jericho. Ultimately the decision came down to weight savings and the P226 is just lighter

Re: All-around 9mm Handgun

H&K p30 gets my vote for reliability, fully ambi controls and great ergonomics.

I personally like their mag release, but others prefer a more traditional side button release. If you can get used to that, like the reliability of glocks, but wished for a better trigger...the H&K p30 is the gun for you.

Also lots of trigger options. For simplicity and consistency, I like the LEM trigger.

The tapered slide and sights direct your eyes to the sights and make target acquisition very quick.

Re: All-around 9mm Handgun

I have a CZ 75 SP01, and it has to be getting close to 10,000 rounds through it. When I take people shooting, its the gun I grab for them to shoot, women love it, new shooters love it. Very accurate, eats everything I have tried, rarely jams, when it does jam its due to its age+dirt.

The downfalls of the CZ, the safety. It is not what I would call a safe firearm compared to others, reading the manual you will find the cocked and locked is bad juju. Lowering the hammer slowly wiht a round in the chamber? Yeah, no thanks. But as a target gun? Range shooter? Running without a round in the chamber? Great gun. The other thing is field stripping, its not the easiest, but once you get it, its quite easy, just not as easy as others.

It is one of my all time favorites, I liked it more than my Sig 226 x5 all around, big time. But as a daily carry?

But in all seriousness I cannot stress enough, how accurate this little handgun is, so much fun. As you shoot the gun, like around 500 rounds or so, the trigger just turns into this sexual cocoa butter girl. It is AMAZING how nice it is. I will never ever get rid of this handgun, and I did get rid of the sig 226 x5. Mind you I still have a sig 226 in 40, as well as a gob of others but I am not really married to any of my other handguns except for my glock 10mm with a lonewolf longslide and my HK45c. All the others I would sell or trade.

Re: All-around 9mm Handgun

My vote, 225. W.German 225's were my favorite. Point like a Commander and never a failure though I only carry ball.

Re: All-around 9mm Handgun

I vote Sig. Hard to argue with 22 rounds (The Mec-Gar Supercap 20 round 9mm mags actually hold 21) of 127gr +p+ Winchester Ranger Talon at your fingertip.
Worst case scenario, you can beat them with the pistol till the white meat shows too.

Re: All-around 9mm Handgun

I am a 9mm fanatic - my safe is filled with Steyrs, SIGs, HKs, Walthers, Glocks, etc.

That being said, for an "everyday, SHTF etc" firearm, I vote for polymer. Any of the following would be fine:

HK P30
Walther PPQ
SIG Pro 2022
FNP/FNX-9

Re: All-around 9mm Handgun

As stated previously in this thread, if i cant have a Glock, the next best for me would be a Smith and wesson or sig226
While I am not a fan of double/single pistols, the P226 is the best of that breed by far.

Re: All-around 9mm Handgun

I have S&W M&P 9, 40 and compact 40. The 9 and 40 have Apex AEK and the 40 compact has the DCAEK upgrades. I went with the S&W M&P because of a bad apple Glock 17 (GEN 2). I know it was one out of a million, but it was the one I got.

For the S&W M&P the Apex upgrades are a must if you want to feel the trigger reset consistently. Once you have the upgrades the triggers are better feeling than the Glocks, JMO.

Also, of Sig, if that's the way you go, don't get the DAK model. I hate the DAK anything Sig. I have owned Sig SAS P229 (DAK) and Sig p220 carry. I still own a West German P6 and think it's a great piston, however it's only a single stack. Good luck on your decision.

Re: All-around 9mm Handgun

Browning High Power would be my first choice. A great handling, accurate, and reliable gun. The Sig P226 would be my second choice.

Re: All-around 9mm Handgun

If It was only one pistol, I would have to go with the Glock 17/19. Not my favorite pistol in the world, but If it were only one I would have to go with the Glock. A pistol is only a means to get to a rifle anyway.

Re: All-around 9mm Handgun

I went through the same dilemma a while back. I ditched my Glocks and carry either a P225 or a P226 depending on the situation. I've had no regrets about doing it.

Re: All-around 9mm Handgun

I carry a G17 or G26 with the same setup, Trijicon RMR Co-witnessed with iron sights, bar-sto barrel I was a competent pistol shot before, but the red dot-over-irons has made a definite improvement to accuracy and time, especially when engaging multiple steel targets.

Re: All-around 9mm Handgun

tomthebaker.....i was looking at a Busse knife at a local shop a couple of days ago. The quality looked pretty good for the price point. I did notice that the sample I picked up was made in China. Any idea if any of the Busse knives are built in the USA?

Re: All-around 9mm Handgun

HKP30. I have a Glock Model 22 Gen 2 obviously not the caliber you are inquiring about. Bought it in 1993. I love it. The HKP30 is my carry gun and I love the ergonomics of the gun and it is a hell of a good shooter. I especially like the slide release and mag release better than what Glock has to offer. The "glove" snag protection in the trigger guard is a plus too. Yes, you can buy two Glocks for the price of an HK pistol, but I can't express enough how much I love this gun.

Plus one on that one!

Re: All-around 9mm Handgun

I'm going with the Sig P226 as my "on your poll" gun, but I would go with the Springfield XD or XDM. Thats my SHTF gun.

Re: All-around 9mm Handgun

Hi-Power. Get rid of the magazine safety. Lot of 1911 fans here. John Browning felt the Hi-Power was an improvement.

Re: All-around 9mm Handgun

My CZ-75 Pre B (1992) is the most accurate 9mm I own. Love shooting it and it's my CCW gun too.

Re: All-around 9mm Handgun

I own the CZ75B, Sig 226, Glock 19 and a Kahr CW9. I like em in the order given. I also own the 22 LR conversion kits for the CZ and Sig and the CZ one is better. They are all good but I like the CZ best.

Re: All-around 9mm Handgun

I had a couple of CZ75's; the older one's' and they wouldn't function reliably w/ hollowpoints but they were very accurate.

Re: All-around 9mm Handgun

If you have large hands, you may struggle with the G19. I've been carrying one for 3 years and while I trust it with my life, it's far from comfortable. I find myself constantly fighting with the grip and it can detract from accuracy if you aren't persistent with your training.

We were shooting at a buddy's farm a few weeks ago and my Glock fell out of my thigh holster while we were driving the Rhino downrange. His brother was working on the other side of the farm but drove over my weapon when he came by to bs. I found it in pressed into a large tire track, wiped the mud off the sights, racked it twice and it fired all 15 rounds.

10 minutes after we got back to camp, a guy's crispy clean 4th gen 17 stovepiped with some Wolf so take that for what it is.

Re: All-around 9mm Handgun

You guys seem to have forgotten about Kahr Arms. I carry a CW9 all of the time. Very accurate and reliable.I know it's not on the list, but it is a good choice. Only 8 rounds, but shot placement makes the difference

Re: All-around 9mm Handgun

P30 m&p or g19 i know you said no glocks, bt thats my vote in no. Order.

Re: All-around 9mm Handgun

Love my. CZ's........old or new....they eat anything that I feed it......my vote for the best allaround 9mm handgun.

Re: All-around 9mm Handgun

CZ75 or Browning/FN High Power if I had to pick from that list. They both feel and fit good, are also metal, heavier, accurate ,and proven designs. Even though it's not on your list I would have to go with a Glock for ease of working on and part availability if needed. The S&W M&P's fit like a glove for me, and I shoot good with them also.

Re: All-around 9mm Handgun

I think it depends on what fits your hand. I have a gen 3 G19 and it goes everywhere I do. My buddy went with an XD and that thing just feels wrong to me. both great guns, but the nod goes to the glock for me.

Re: All-around 9mm Handgun

Wanted to add my $.02 to this thread. I have owned and shot various 9mm handguns the first being a Ruger P89 to glocks to HK. I currently have a Sig P226 and I guess you could call me a diehard fan now. Will/would I ever own other guns yeah. I just shot a XDM and M&P with a trigger kit and loved both. But the controls natural pointability and recoil of my Sig is just awesome. Its never failed me and just plain works. Plus I think its a sharp looking gun aswell which is just icing on the cake for the way it shoots and feels. Get what works best for you and if you try something and it doesnt work the nice thing about guns is resale is usually pretty good especially if you shop around for a good deal.

Re: All-around 9mm Handgun

I would suggest a Glock 19, but of the ones on your list the S&W M&P.

Re: All-around 9mm Handgun

I just would like to post on what I purchased.

CZ Shadow
CZ PCR
Sig 226 WGermany
Sig 2022 WGermany

Thank you to everyone's opinion even if you were short sighted to the Glock.

Re: All-around 9mm Handgun

The Glock 19. Having used one for years, I think they are an excellent all around pistol.

Re: All-around 9mm Handgun

Well i was in the same position a month back, being a rifle shotgun shooter this was m first handgun. I was lucky that my local range hand all popular guns and i got to try all of them including ruger sr9c. Well glocks are a legend but i figure for a new shooter sr9c offered the best bang for the buck, like adjustable sights (being a rifle shooter i have to have that), a very good triger and there is little you can do to improve it and some how i just shot very accurate with it. I know a lot of people had the same experienc with sr series they just shoot good. So i will recomend put that on your list, shoot one, yes there are not hundred after market parts but for me it does Not need any and i keep my warrenty. Ruger has been so sucsesfull lately that they out sold their production and are not taking new orders and i am sure these handguns are big part of it.
http://bulletin.accurateshooter.com/2012/03/demand-for-ruger-firearms-outstrips-production-capacity/

My 2cents, but i am shooting so good with sr9c that i am hooked on to the whole handgun sport.

Re: All-around 9mm Handgun

Springfield xd for me over the g19 and 17. Just a preference but the grip angle on the xd's more closely resemble a 1911 and feel the most natural to me. I'm always having to bend my wrist coward to get it to point shoot. Just my 2 cents....

Re: All-around 9mm Handgun

Out of the ones listed Browning Hp hands down. This is the most underrated gun on the market.

Re: All-around 9mm Handgun

Sig P226! The gun is simply bulletproof. I've owned glocks, H&Ks, and other various handguns and my sig is far and away my favorite over all the rest.

Re: All-around 9mm Handgun

if you want all metal get a sigp22x in 9mm. If poly, check out the sig p2022. solid shooter with a great rep.

Re: All-around 9mm Handgun

S&W M&P 9 service model for me. Decent trigger reset and seems to run everything I feed it.

Re: All-around 9mm Handgun

My none 1911/.45 acp handguns went this way, Browning BDM, Glock, SA XDM. The XDM is the best of the three.

BDM - feels good in my hand, nice trigger, not as accurate as my XDM, sharp recoil that makes it uncomfortable to shoot after a magazine or two.

Glock - those finger groove thingies just don't fit my hand, trigger is a Glock (nothing more to say there), not as accurate as my XDM, recoil feels different than the BDM but still not as comfortable to shoot as the XDM.

XDM - with the flatter grip piece in it fits my hand great, more accurate than the other two brands above, recoil is so soft its hard to believe it's a centerfire handgun round, it holds more rounds than either of the above and it piles the empties up in a neat little 2 ft. circle to the rear side of my right foot, round after round after round. No searching for empties like the other two guns (and my 1911's).

I'm already considering another XDM later this year. My wife probably needs one.
