Hey Guys just got my hands on an AAC SD. I've decided to see the most i can get out of the platform. I was wondering what I might do to improve it in terms of accuracy and features as a silencer host. I know an improved bolt knob is a must as well as a new trigger, any suggestions. The endgame for it is an AI AX stock and an SDN6.

Re: Upgrading REM700 AAC SD

i would def change out the stock, and get yourself some good glass for it.

Re: Upgrading REM700 AAC SD

Agree. Stock, Glass, As much ammo as you can afford, and go shoot. Why is a bolt knob a must? I'd say that's probably the very last thing that matters. It won't help the rifle shoot better. But if you have to have one get the KRG knob for $25 and put whatever else you were going to spend on a bolt knob toward your optic.

Re: Upgrading REM700 AAC SD

i would spend money on a trigger before a bolt knob myself.

Re: Upgrading REM700 AAC SD

An improved bolt knob isn't a must right off the bat. I would take that money and spend it on a secondhand takeoff stock from the PX here if I were to start over again...

Edit: Or a better trigger as the gents above say.

Re: Upgrading REM700 AAC SD

I second the trigger. My varmint is such a pleasure to shoot after swapping out the x mark pro. I would have to concentrate on trigger pull, and sometimes stop halfway through due to it not breaking where I was expecting. Now I just think about the target and breathing and fire. Could just be that I've had more practice, but anything that makes it more pleasurable to shoot, the better. And I have the KRG knob, it's solid and works well. Not the prettiest, but it gets the job done.

Just 'cuz all the other kids are doing it, doesn't mean you need to as well. Very often a large bolt knob causes problems with a traditional stock. If you really want to try it out, check out the KRG Ops "Bolt Lift".

I have two rifles with the stock X-Mark still on them. Don't get into the idea that you have to replace everything on the rifle before you actually learn to use it.

Re: Upgrading REM700 AAC SD

Mine is about three months old and the first thing I did was put a B&C Light Tactical on it and its great. If you have limited funds the stock is an absolute must! I put a badger bolt knob on mine myself and I love it. Got a Harris bipod from a Hide member. Just ordered a brake from RWS and I'm waiting for it to come in I will let you know how it is. From what I've read its an awesome brake for the money. Have a possum hollow bore guide and dewey rod too. I don't mind the factory trigger on mine it works just fine for me. Bolt knob is not a must but it does make a huge difference. My AAC-SD has everything I need but not everything I want. It shoots amazingly well and once you change the stock you will love it even more.

Re: Upgrading REM700 AAC SD

Hey guys I really appreciate the feedback, I am a newbie to long range bolt guns and have always been a semi/gas shooter so intuitively I jump for ergos. But apparently triggers and glass are high priority. So chassis, trigger, and Glass/mounts.

With the Rem AAC I went:
1. Stock - AICS 2.0.
2. Glass - NF 5.5-22x56
waited a while until it was just unbearable and then bought the...
3. Timney 510 Trigger - X-Mark Pro was 7.5 lbs. It was retarded and it could not be adjusted so Remington can blow me with their 3.5 lb pull bull shit.
4. KRG bolt knob because it was an inexpensive fix to a non existent problem. I'm not fast enough or good enough to have needed a new custom bolt knob or even a larger knob in general, I just like the extra toys.

Re: Upgrading REM700 AAC SD

i have a aac sd.. its a great rifle. i bedded it in a manners stock with seekins dbm. installed a timney flat trigger and went to shooting. i thought the bolt knob was a must also but the more i shoot it the more it does not seen to hinder me. i topped it all off with a vortex razor 5-20 and i couldn't be happier with the setup.

Re: Upgrading REM700 AAC SD

I am building up one as well. I have a McMillan A5 in GAP Camo on the way as well as Surgeon DBM. Have a Nightforce rail installed but haven't settled on a scope yet. Will do a Timney trigger and maybe a knob ... despite its usefulness, I really like those oversized knobs. Oh ... I have an AAC brake on it too. Can't wait to get it all put together and try it out ...
