Sniper’s Hide Cup Official 2012 Sniper's Hide Cup

Re: Official 2012 Sniper's Hide Cup

So all stages are with the same amount of points? I have never been to the hide match do I will trust that it will all wok out in the end. I cannot wait!!

Re: Official 2012 Sniper's Hide Cup

The final scoring won't be set until Frank and I decide we're done adding diabolical stuff and figure out how to integrated it into points; however for the most part-- first round hits will be important, but second round hits will get half the points on some stages.

Re: Official 2012 Sniper's Hide Cup

Due to some non-payers and people who have had to drop out, we'll take some more people onto the wait list (which is currently down to about 6).

So if you want to still get a shot at the SHC, submit an online registration. You won't have to pay until your slot comes up.

If any of the delinquent payers want to get back on the wait list, let me know ASAP via email.

I am a wizard with spreadsheets... if you like, I can create something based on the parameters you set and point value system... the spreadsheet "notebook" can incorporate it all...and I can either bring it with me on my laptop when I come out (or email it to a principle who'll have their computer)...

alternatively, if it is something that can be done on the cloud and then accessed from a smart phone...I can look into that...but cheapest and most straightforward is done for a PC or Mac (I have both)...

let me know if you'd like this and then we can talk about getting that set up...
(I love this sort of thing!)

Sounds like I don't have to practice my dot drills for this one.

Re: Official 2012 Sniper's Hide Cup

File the Dot Drill...

Yes, because you won't hit the same target "twice" in terms of scoring, every first round hit will be the same value. As well every second round hit is the same value and the same goes with the pistol. However a hit with a pistol, (and you only need a hit) is worth the same as a second round rifle.

Talking with people I understand their frustration with scoring, for example a UKD that might be at 625yards is worth 100 pts for a 1st round hit and 50 for a second. Yet a 1000 yard target being hit 4 or 5 times is only worth 20-25 pts per hit regardless of the fact you might have gotten a first round hit. So in a 5 shot drill at 1000 yards, even if you hit the 1st 4 shots and missed the 5th you got less points than a single 1st round UKD half the distance.

Not every target will give you an opportunity to get a second round hit, closer ones for example, but every target has the same max value.

We spent a lot of time discussing scoring and targets. As well if you see any paper at all it will be a favor for the competitors on the second-third day, to sort of check zero, but still no groups on target. I have what would be a twist in mind based on most conventional matches for that evolution.

Re: Official 2012 Sniper's Hide Cup

Will there be no chance to (re)zero before the match starts?

Re: Official 2012 Sniper's Hide Cup

Just to build on what Frank posted, the stages are being designed to have roughly the same number of points, but there will be some variation. The final match score will be just the number of total points you earn hitting targets throughout the match.

On some stages, you'll get only one shot per target, and if you hit it you get the "first round hit" point value. On other stages, you can try a second shot if you miss the first, but if you hit it then you get only half the first-round hit value. A first round hit on any stage is worth the same number of points.

There may be one or two stages that are graded on "time to complete" (ie like a 3Gun/USPSA stage). These will have their time (plus penalties) converted into an equivalent average stage "point" score using the usual method ( fastest time / your time ).

The shooter packet you get during sign-in on Wed will detail the scoring, procedures, penalties, etc, for every stage and the whole match.

Yes, on Wed there will be a place you can check zero, but no later than 5pm.

RayDog, Justin, and I just finished setting up some stages. Trivia: average target distance set today, 570 yards.

Re: Official 2012 Sniper's Hide Cup

Looks good...

Luckily the competitors don't have to follow the event staff up the hill to set the targets, they just have to find them and shoot them.

Nice job ! & thanks for the highlights

Re: Official 2012 Sniper's Hide Cup

What's the elevation up there?

Re: Official 2012 Sniper's Hide Cup

I didn't check, but I heard the DA was 7,000 at the Biathlon yesterday. Elevation shows 4,836 in town.

Re: Official 2012 Sniper's Hide Cup

Looks like around 5700 in the range area from the terrain map on the match site but would rather get the actual from someone that was up there.

Re: Official 2012 Sniper's Hide Cup

Cool. Thanks Zak.

yes and no, there is service in some areas, and none in other areas.

Re: Official 2012 Sniper's Hide Cup

FYI

so, go to your account profile and fill in the T Shirt sizes as soon as possible

Re: Official 2012 Sniper's Hide Cup

Took care of mine. The default small would be a little tight but I might have fit in it

Re: Official 2012 Sniper's Hide Cup

Couple notes:

1. Please check if your confirmation code is one of these: 6489 6626 6661 2715 6414 9171 8763 1895 3694 2363. If it <span style="font-style: italic">is</span> and you intend to shoot the SHC, please contact me immediately.

2. The wait list is down to a very small number, so if you're interested in the possibility of a SHC slot, please do the online sign up and to get on it. (As the no-refund date gets close, some people are dropping out due to other obligations.)

thanks

Re: Official 2012 Sniper's Hide Cup

I'm sure spectators are allowed to trail shooting squads but a friend asked about bringing his dog, leashed of course. Thought I'd ask in advance!

Re: Official 2012 Sniper's Hide Cup

Cool, thanks, I will let 'em know!

Re: Official 2012 Sniper's Hide Cup

Will there be any Rifle to pistol transitions in the match: Stages where it is required to sling the rifle and transition to pistol?

Re: Official 2012 Sniper's Hide Cup

As long as you carry it the whole match yes
<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body">
Any shooting accessories may be used provided they are carried by the competitor during every stage. Accessories include but are not limited to:

bipods, bags, shooting sticks, slings, jackets, gloves, or other shooting support devices
optics such as spotting scopes, binoculars, and range-finders </div></div>
It is possible that specific stage briefings might over-ride any rule, but this is the principle

Re: Official 2012 Sniper's Hide Cup

Will we need shooting sticks? If so what height do you recommend, short or tall?
Thanks

Re: Official 2012 Sniper's Hide Cup

Is there spectators allowed at the cup? My cousin is registered and I was already going to be in the Douglas area during the comp.

You can watch, might be better to help out where possible, more ROs the better.

Re: Official 2012 Sniper's Hide Cup

The great part is I did get in and we are going to have a great time together. This should be a lot differant and alot more fun than a long range rifle class. Lots get shooting!!!

Re: Official 2012 Sniper's Hide Cup

I too am in and looking forward to this match and the train up...

Frank, what is the round count for the train up?

Re: Official 2012 Sniper's Hide Cup

I am shipping ammo ahead and not sending a lot of extra, so I would like to be clear about the round count. The original overview indicates 240 rounds rifle. However, yesterday the notes said "200 rounds - 100 per day" but the match is shooting for 3 days - so is that 300 rounds? Also I don't see a pistol round count indicated.

Re: Official 2012 Sniper's Hide Cup

Photo that 100 rounds a day was in response to a question about the ammo for the train up prior to the match.

Re: Official 2012 Sniper's Hide Cup

Thanks Rob that is correct.

For the SHC match itself, if you hit every first round shot you'll only need about 130 rifle rounds. A second round attempt following a miss will be allowed on many of the stages (not all) for 1/2 points, so 240 is a very realistic maximum possible required.

Re: Official 2012 Sniper's Hide Cup

OK, Maybe I've missed it somewhere, if it were a snake I'd a been bit kinda thing.

Road map to course, physical location for checking in, shooters meeting, etc. TBA?
