While searching for parts for an M40 build. I leaned about the Remington 700 Police that was built in 1986, which came in a walnut stock. This stock is the one that we look for to do our builds because its pretty darn close to the original M700 sniper. I've seen the stocks and even bought one from Numerichs, but I never saw one with the barreled action in it. Then, I met some of the M40 guys on here and holy Crap. They have some stuff that will bring tears to your eyes! My Buddy has one of the 700 Police's in the wood stock and its beautiful. They found it a few years back and been looking for another one ever since.
Last Thursday, i was looking for cheap doner rifles and stumbled across a Remington 700 target 308 listed. I looked at it and it was the old 700 police. Told my Friends about it and they immediately told me to buy it, they even emailed me 1986 Remington Ads about the rifle. Found out they made a 223 version too. Well Friday night my buddy calls me and says you better buy it now or he would. So i did, then i decided to look for a doner gun again and came across a Remington SPM military listing. Well I had to look, Dude it was the 223 version of the Wood Stocked 700 Police and the listing ended on Saturday. Well Needless to say, in the next few weeks I'll have my 308 and 223 walnut stocked Remington 700 Police's in my hands!
The Real reason for my post is I'm looking for info on these rifles. I saw references to them being made in the Custom shop, they seem to be pretty rare. Anyone know of production numbers, how they were configured, did they come in a package with a scope? There just isn't alot of info on them, so I'm soliciting you guys for info.
Pictures of the pair will be posted right after I fondle them a bit. Please post pics of your rifles too! Ha, I'll show you mine if you show me yours!

Re: Remington 700 Police in Walnut stocks

Nothing special about the early 700P. Just a parked Varmint Special barreled action in a plain jane usin stock. No Custom Shop. The cheap stock just helped Remington lower the prices to LE Agencies for their product.

See the 1 with the 3x9 Leupie is gone off of old AA site, did you get that one???

Here's the 223 pics of the 308 as soon as I get it!

Numrich has n.o.s stocks, its the same one folks are getting for their m40 builds

Bringing back an old thread...

I'm also looking for information about the vintage 700P rifles. ADL or BDL? What type of scope/moutings were used? Redfield I guess?

Something about that rifle just says classy...Maybe it's just nice to see something not synthetic or aluminum, even if it isn't technically as advanced.

They are BDL's. the leupold vari-x series was a popular combo with the old police guns. I put the redfield on it for a M40 look.

WTH! That guy needs to remount his scope, big time! "For those times when the lives of innocent people and fellow officers depend on your not dialing your scope." LOL!

Guys this is my first post; please bear with me. First of all, thank you for the wealth of information here, and thanks for having me aboard. I am new to the world of precision rifles, but I love steel and wood (I have several Garands). I just bought a new .308 700P with 26" barrel. Would my rifle drop into this stock without any modifications? Thank you.

Thank god I wasn't the only one to see Ray Liotta!

Yes. That stock is a Remington product. Its not aftermarket. The fit is perfect. I bought 2 of them, and both were a direct drop in without any mods.

bringing back an old thread, here.
I have one of these, in .223. Purchased new, in 1987. Still have the box. No reference to it in Blue Book. Trying to find info on value.
(Pardon the overly brief writing style... shoulder surgery earlier today, so I am typing wrong handed)
