Still contemplating a savage 10fp in 308.

About 14 years ago I cut my long range teeth on a .308 Savage 10 FP out to 1160 yards with an SWFA fixed 10X. Over the years I upgraded to an AI Chassis (they made on for Savage for a short time). Then I added a Gen 2 Razor and TBAC can.

Folks talk down Savages but that gun was under 1/2 moa out of the box and never gave me a lick of trouble. It gave me the confidence to keep going with precision long distance shooting.

I finally shot out the barrel around 5k of most warm loads and parted it out to move to other projects. Fond memories……..

It’s been my impression that one does not hear a great deal of criticism of “ higher” grade ( more expensive ) Savage rifles such as the Model 12 target guns. The Axis line fills a niche at a price point that’s very reachable for a lot of folks, not as refined as the Tikkas and Bergara, but allows a lot of people to shoot. Love my Super Varmint in 6.5 CM and am a confirmed Tikka fan, but it was a Model 12 LRPV that got me into shooting and I still thoroughly enjoy it 2K rounds in.

Bottom Metal will take a while to ship from the UK. All orders are on hold.

So far I have a bolt lift kit, vortex strike eagle, bipod, timney trigger, surefire muzzle brake, scope rings and scope base inbound. I have 2 mdt aics mags and the electoral and extractor upgrade kit on hand.

Everything is starting to come together slowly.

Glad to see some Savage love. When the accu-trigger first came out at least 20 yrs ago I picked up a model 12 varmint with the stainless, fluted 26 in heavy barrel in 270 wsm. Didn’t matter what factory load I put thru it it was .75 and with hand loads around half moa. Upgraded the cheap plastic black stock and rocked on.
