for those of you who own them both or at least the badger ordnance base, have you all had to bed them to the action?

I did a quick search and saw that some shooters bed 99% of their builds, others never. I trust the quality of the badger product, the remy to a degree.

I appreciate the feedback and apologize to those who feel this has been done already. I'm new to bolt action and this is my first build.

To be honest, I never even checked it out to see how it might fit not bedded. I had my smith bed the Bagder rail to my Rem 5R .308 along with some other things he was doing.

Bed if you need to. Check by installing and torquing only the front screw and checking for a gap. Then remove that screw and torque the back screw. No gap then you don't need to bed unless you see some weird vertical stringing.

Re: remy 700 badger base bedding

I didn't have to bed mine. It fit perfectly, like they used mine for the mold. I couldn't believe the fit and finish.

Re: remy 700 badger base bedding

Thank you for the responses.
The base should arrive tomorrow, so... We'll see!

Re: remy 700 badger base bedding

I don't know who came up w this. You don't need to bed a badger base to the receiver. Who freaking comes up wmthis crap!?!?!

Re: remy 700 badger base bedding

Also check the integral recoil lug of the base. Some do not make contact with the reciever. I think that is a Remington issue. Squirting some loctite under the base before tightening will help to keep out the rain and prevent rust. I have had several that did not line up right. All my recivers and bases get line reamed together and bored out to 8-40 anyway. Another reason I now have a surgeon.

Well, I just had one in the shop yesterday. Brand new Rem 700 AAC-SD and a one-piece Badger base. When I torqued the front two screws the back of the base lifted 0.020" off the receiver.
Necessary to bed this base? I think so.

Re: remy 700 badger base bedding

It went together perfect. 700 aac-sd to badger 20moa base great fit. tried a few feeler gauges and nothing. cleaned it all with acetone, used the red locktite on the base, and a drop on the screws.

now, if only it were Tuesday and the ups man handed me a scope...

Re: remy 700 badger base bedding

It is not the base that is the issue it is the Remington action. I've had some that are fine and others that are very sloppy on the rear bridge and those I bed. Problem solved.

This is correct...
