I happened to notice this item when I was looking at Hornady's website for some info on the 178 gn BTHP and A-Max. I was kind of surprised, as I'd never seen or heard of anyone here even mentioning it in passing, and seeing as how Hornady seems to be pretty popular here I found that somewhat odd...

So, anybody seen it on shelves, or tossed a few down range as of yet?

Only problem is that it's BC is relatively low for the weight...its not much better than the 178 HPBT, but is 12grains heavier...unless the bullet has some redeaming qualities such as jump intolerance, i think i'll pass...

Yeah I thought BC would be higher considering what the 208 amax is.

I noticed the same thing. But what really caught my eye was the 196gr 8mm BTHP listing. That, along with Noslers new 8mm 200 Custom Comp bullet makes me wonder about new interest in that caliber.

Tom Whittaker won half a dozen national LR championships over a few decades shooting SMK 190s. Lones Wigger set the 3P 300M world record 47 years ago with the 200 SMK.

Maybe Hornady figured it was time for a tweener to go after some green box market share with.

I've got four boxes of factory Lapua 300WM loaded with a 195gr. bullet. Wonder if they were copying that bullet.
