New power case trimmer WFT....

Re: New power case trimmer WFT....

We use chambering reamer to cut the trim chambers on our trimmers. As you can imagine F/L sized or partially F/L sized cases trim very well. Most of the time neck-sized cases trim well especially if your cases were fired in a custom chamber or a fairly tight and straight factory chamber. We've had very few problems with the hundreds of trimmers we've sold, usually if there is a problem the customer is using Lee collet dies. It seems like the culprit is that because of the way the Lees "cam over" they tend to buckle the shoulder slightly.

The WFT supports the case for about 3/4" usually this is enough to support about 3/16" or more of the forward edge of the body. It seems like this is just enough to give excellent stability and rocking the case in the trimming does not seem to be much of an issue.

Perfect... you've convinced me to give one of these a go.

Thank you.

Littlecrow:

Mine is fine. Is there any advantage, or disadvantage of a horizontally-held drill over a vertical drill press. I have noticed some build-up of brass crumbles in the trimmer...

Re: New power case trimmer WFT....

It does not seem to matter much. Personally I find it more comfortable to hold it horizontally, however if you use it in a drill press you can hold a deburring tool in your off-hand and chamfer case mouths at the same time.

Re: New power case trimmer WFT....

Littlecrow - Any chance of developing a 3-way cutter bit like the Giraud design? I don't know if you would have to re-do the body, just an idea.

Re: New power case trimmer WFT....

The WFT's cutter is extremely sharp (We use standard end mill cutters), which leaves virtually no burr. All that should be necessary is a quick inside chamfer on the case mouth.

A three way cutter would require a complete redesign and would most likely be a PITA to set-up. I think we'll stay with our KISS design.

One othe question we get a lot is: do we offer a carbide cutter?
Yes we do, however we don't recommend it. High speed steel is much sharper and will stay sharp for a long time, especially on brass. Carbide is brittle so it can't be sharpened to the same degree as HSS.

I understand. I also think the tooling and redisgn would make it much less cost-effective, but I was just throwing the question out there. Also, you may not be able to get the blade out as the head may be larger than the body opening. You would have to put it in the body from the bearing side and then install the bearing. I like how you can take the bit out of the body for cleaning. Us engineers - always asking questions is all. Thank you

The trimmed cases have absolutely no burr on the ones I have trimmed. The steel will last a long time.

Re: New power case trimmer WFT....

I never could justify the price of a self contained motorized unit so I hate to admit it but the WFT was built to a price point. Hopefully the WFT's precision, convenience, and durability makes up for what it lacks in bells and whistles.

It works and saves my fingers a lot of pain. Fantastic to me.

Re: New power case trimmer WFT....

I just picked up one in .223 and gave it a go the other night. I was pleasantly surprised on all fronts--speed, squareness, lack of burrs, ergonomics.

I'm not doubting the Giraud is the bee's knees...but I am really happy with the WFT for the application I'm using it for--mass trimming on a single caliber.

Great tool thus far!

Re: New power case trimmer WFT....

Great piece of gear. I bought one in .223 a month ago and have been very impressed with it. I set it up with a piece of brass that was exactly 1.750" and trimmed 300 pieces of brass one night. The consistency in length and squareness of the cut was excellent and considerably faster than the lathe type trimmer I've been using for the last 16 years.

Re: New power case trimmer WFT....

I only neck size, so I assume something like this is no-go for me?

I mean, they should all be the same because I don't change any variance but... (I just have the die touch the press when fully up) sooo....

Re: New power case trimmer WFT....

Will be ordering one for 308, for the price you can't beat it!
