I see the gen I is about 1200 bucks... (from 6mbr review) but can't find anything on the gen II... so how much is it? and what kind of time frame?

Re: Cost of Prometheus II ?

Call Brand. It's a pretty amazing machine.

Re: Cost of Prometheus II ?

I can call him, but I just want to know how much it is if anyone knows here from a recent purchase... I know it's a wonderful device

Re: Cost of Prometheus II ?

I have always heard it was 3K+ and you don't even own it, you have to lease it. Something having to do with not making commercial ammo with it.

For that kind of money, I am fine with my shitty Chargemaster and producing mid to low single digit SD's.

Re: Cost of Prometheus II ?

Dont get cauggt up in high speed gear , no substitute for actuall practice ,thats what will get you a hit....

Re: Cost of Prometheus II ?

Its around 2900 for the GEN 2, I've been waiting for over 18 months now and he doesn't return my check in emails at all.

There are much cheaper solutions that are about as fast.........

Re: Cost of Prometheus II ?

Once you have one and use it you will wonder how you ever loaded without it. Worth every penny in my opinion.

Really, what is in the 10-11 second per charge range with the same accuracy?

Re: Cost of Prometheus II ?

Cost is about 3K and I think it is one round per 6-7 sec. About as fast as you want to seat bullets and move back. Though you do not own it, you can use if forever. It is a protection against non compensated commericial use.

Re: Cost of Prometheus II ?

For the money I would go with Sartoious 503 scale with the Omega powder trickler.

Of course, I was being flip, but in all seriousness, I think this level of OCD about sub-milligram weights is way over-shadowed by myriad other factors in the reloading process.

Did you ever pull apart a box of FGMM and weigh the powder?

Re: Cost of Prometheus II ?

2nd the satorious, I do not even trickle I use a harrel thrower, leave the top and 1 side door open and count out the few pieces of powder to add or subtract - this thing is so tight I even find myself looking for a smaller/ larger piece of powder to throw in - need to slap myself for getting silly

Re: Cost of Prometheus II ?

I got a Satorius a few weeks back. It does measure down to a kernel of powder, an amazing scale. I got it just to check on my Chargemaster. I did get an Omega trickler too and long term plan to switch to that setup instead of the Chargemaster. I just have not had time to set the Omega up. I would think this would be a good alternative to the Prometheus at least in terms of scale accuracy. I can't say in terms of speed yet.

Re: Cost of Prometheus II ?

Thanks guys... I think the pro and I are at different levels of reloading. I can't justify cost of 3 grand for powder. I probably shoot 200-300 rounds a year, and all for hobby. I don't compete for .1 moa differences. perhaps this is awesome for bench rest, or people who are really into this hobby. lol... Since it's a lease, do you make a monthly payment for it or something?

deisel, what kind of accuracy were you able to observe from the accuracy of chargemaster scale to the satorius?? I'm curious about that. I can allow a .2 grain play in my loads I think. lol

Re: Cost of Prometheus II ?

No there is no monthly payment, the money is paid up front, for me its all about the speed and accuracy, I work 12 hour days, 2.5 hours a day to and from work, family, chores, and everything else, when it comes time to reload so I can shoot I need it to be fast, accurate, and fool proof, Giraud Trimmer, Gen 2 Prometheus, Co-Ax press, and other top quaility tools enable me to reload 200 rounds in less than 2 hours, of course the brass must be clean to start off with.

Definitely not worth it for that price. It is mainly a time saver. I am into several thousand a year, so it kind of makes sense in terms of how much time and pain I get back. I am making 75 rounds at a time every week to every two weeks, so I imagine I would easily save an hour or two a week. If I were saving just a few hours over the course of a year... definitely not worth it.

Unlike a lot of folks, I don't enjoy reloading and any time I can spend not reloading is time well spent.

Re: Cost of Prometheus II ?

427 and Carter hit the nail on the head, its ALL about efficiency. The Pro II is really geared toward the shooter that NEEDS accurate charges, throw quickly, AND, most importantly, without loader input. Therein lies the key...you can get other stuff that will run just as fast, automatically, just as accurate and for less, but NOT all of the above at once. NOTHING but the Pro II will do that, not even the Pro I. ANd good luck finding a Pro I for $1200....when I sold mine, it went for a good bit more than that.

perhaps when I make more money and shoot about 20 times as much

Sartoious 503 scale with the Omega powder trickler. + lee powder drop

13-14 secs per charge with the same accuracy as the Prometheus II. Would I have bought one sure....but like I said he no longer seems to return emails or acknowledge his existence to people who are on the wait list.

Re: Cost of Prometheus II ?

I currently use the Sartorius GD-503 with Lee Perfect Powder Measure and Omega Trickler. No way am I anywhere near 13 - 14 seconds per charge. It takes me about 45 minutes to charge 75 cases start to finish. That is about 36 seconds a charge.

It is as accurate as a Prometheus, but not as fast and you have to be paying very close attention to what you are doing. There are times when two rows of kernels develop in my Omega, which causes an overcharge (by a kernel) and times when my Lee overthrows. For 75 cases, I have to refill my Perfect Measure once per session. I can make the whole session on one fill, but the charge becomes erratic when it is too low. It is worth the extra time it takes to fill up mid-session.

When everything goes right, sure, you can have instances where the Lee throws a few kernels short and you just trickle up with the Omega. That takes 10 seconds. But if you take the true average, you are closer to 30 seconds.

Not to bag on it or anything. It is faster and more consistent than the CM, but requires more attention. It is also faster and less frustrating than using the VIC-123 or AY-123. But still not really comparable to the Prometheus 2.

*Shrugs* even if I'm a few kernels short still only takes me 1-3 seconds to where I want it. I'm on average charging 30-35 cases in a 30min segment.

But seriously...is Brand even alive at this point?

Re: Cost of Prometheus II ?

I am still building them. Though I do get busy at times like we all do, I am pretty sure I get a reply out to all emails, and I know it would be supremely rare for me to not return a message on my phone.... Poison are you sure you emailed the correct address or that it even went thru? Try a phone call maybe? To all those 'on the list', I do ask that you periodically drop me a line so I know you are still interested. Judging from my customer feedback, you'll be more than happy.
Thank you to all my customers out there, who are a great group of guys and keep up the winning!

Replied 3 times to the same email address we started talking to each other on Brand.

And it was through Gmail....so I know for a fact it went through

Re: Cost of Prometheus II ?

I am on the list for the Prometheus, and I've had no problems getting in contact with Brand. He's answered all my questions, and has been excellent at calling me back.

That said, I'm more interested in the time savings, than worrying about 1-3 KERNEL variance. I'll confess that I'm never going to be that good of a shooter, especially while running and gunning, to notice the difference.

Right now, I run two charge masters, and they're fast, but I'm getting at least 50% overthrows on tuned machines with the straw trick. It makes me crazy. With the Prometheus, I'll be able to run as fast, or faster, with much better accuracy.

Re: Cost of Prometheus II ?

If your getting 50% overthrows on a CM your getting 49% more than it should be throwing especially with a good straw mod.
Just doing the straw mod cuts overthrows back to almost nill as the kernels on Parameter 3 trickle mode barely come out a few at a time and even a few Varget kernels won't show up as an overthrow since the machine is only + - 2/10 accuracy spread.
It sounds like your 3 Parameter settings are really tweaked too close to the desired trigger points.
You can speed up Param 1 and 2 pretty fast but slow trickle a bit less. Something is really wrong with that unit.
