Rifle Scopes Schmidt & Blunder terrible service !!!!

Re: Schmidt & Blunder terrible service !!!!

Even the best manufacturer can deliver a faulty product or mess up the delivery (wrong product, delay etc.). The trick is, that the best companies don't do it regularly, rather exceptionally. But we are all just human.

I know I would be frustrated, should my S&B turn out badly, but it is an outstanding scope.

I hope your buddy's problem gets sorted out quickly, now.

You started out with your witty "Schmidt and Blunder" insult. Then you filled out your message with a bitchfest. Finally you signed it by disparaging an entire country's scope industry.

You have a really strange way of asking for a phone number.

Re: Schmidt & Blunder terrible service !!!!

I don't have a bone in this particular fight but as a newbie to this whole world I have to say there is a tendency to jump on people who post negative comments about products that we like in general. Fact is that sometimes stuff doesn't go as planned and people want to either warn others or get better results. The happy campers are usually the ones posting about how great their product ended up being. thats the accepted situation. problem is when many many people have had good results, the one who doesn't is called a liar or asked to jump through hoops. The OP DID go through the things we all expect of posters before they post. They called customer service a bunch of times and got sub par results. If this had been you you would be pissed too.
Another thing that personally irks me a bit is that the equipment that we all use is crazy expensive. When the average salary in this country is probably less than 30-40k spending 2-5k on a scope is no small change. maybe most on this forum make a lot more than that and it tends to diminish the importance one places in getting top quality for top dollar.
try not being so hard on people with negative experiences. it might be you some day and you will appreciate others not giving you such a hard time

Troubleshooting techniques:

So you're walking past a gas station and see an unattended car being filled up with fuel. The automatic shutoff mechanism in the gas pump is NOT working and the gas tank is overflowing, spewing gasoline everywhere. What action should the person take?

A. Keep walking, it's none of your business.
B. Grasp the gas nozzle handle and manually shut off the pump.
C. Throw a match.

Some techniques are better than others. (A lot of) This world is what you make of it.

All that to get a phone number to the service center? All you had to do is ask on this wonderful site and somebody including myself would have been happy to help out. But no you had to go off and be jackass acting like you didnt get enough of mommas milk when you were little because you spent a lot of money on a piece of glass and feel like you needed to be treated special like your at a Rolls Royce dealership. This bullshit of bashing companies on a big forum to get some special attention is getting real old. Ive been there many times and watched them work(and they start at 5.00 AM) so I dont buy half your bullshit and the instruments they use to service and calibrate scopes cost more than most peoples houses. I hope you get a pubic hair on your fucking reticle.

As long as you brush your teeth before you visit S&B I shouldn't have anything to worry about.

I think the duche bags that flamed him should man up and appologize. Or at least admit they were wrong. But, you'll notice they are all suddenly silent on the matter.

I don't know the OP or his buddy. But, I have a good friend that doesn't use this site. And, if he was getting boned after dumping top dollar for a scope, I'd probably do the same thing to help him out (if he couldn't get justice from the company by calling).

Ummm you might want to learn to spell your insults BEFORE you sling them. Just sayin'
I never called him a liar, I doubted the story and did not think the whole drama filled situation was handled properly. Coming onto a shooting forum and flaming a company to get their attention is a piss poor way to go about asking for help.

If I was S&B I would send the scopes back with an Aimpoint style reticle with a note that says : "Machen Sie einen schönen Tag, Ruck!"

If you are helping a friend research information on this site, good for you. You are a kind hearted fellow and deserve applause for your kind soul. But, when you come on here like a raving looney, showing no proof initially to "get some pull with the situation" that is pretty shitty of you. You clearly didn't google enough or you would have found the Virginia based office and then talked to them on the phone saying you are a member here and you think you deserve a competent answer as to why my high end optics are not correct.

Just my two cents....

Hey! That happened to me!
wink.gif

It was just a magnified fiber in the end but I was laughing more than anything cause, well, $#!t happens. FWIW I shot S&B a line, kept concise & professional business tone, and Jerry and Phil treated me awesome. I triple bubble wrapped & double boxed my scope when I sent it in, shipped UPS with insurance, and provided as much detailed info exactly as was requested of me in business memo format. Scope received by S&B on 4/3 afternoon, serviced, and en route back to me on 4/5, packed exactly as I packed it.

FWIW ... having worked around a customer service environment before, I've always treated service reps as if they were my customer, regardless of any hiccups, and always received utmost respect in return.

Re: Schmidt & Blunder terrible service !!!!

I've recently had to deal with S&B service. This certainly isn't something I was expecting to have to do with a $3000+ optic, but that's just the way it goes.
I did a search on here and found the Service Center phone number and address. I called the service center last Tuesday (4/10). Told them my problem. They told me to ship the scope to them. The scope went out Wednesday (4/11). It arrived at the service center on Friday (4/13). Suprisingly, I received a phone call from S&B Service yesterday (4/16) telling me what they found wrong with my scope, what was replaced on it, what may have caused it, and that it was repaired and shipping out that day. Within 5 min of the call I was sent a tracking number. My scope will be back home Friday (4/20).

I'd say that's pretty decent service, in my opinion. How long would it take Nightforce to fix my scope? Weeks? Months? Now, this is just my one particular occurrence and i cant say it is reflective of all the service. This was a warranty repair and it was done free of charge to me. However, if there is one thing i can bitch about its the fact that this was a warranty issue and I had to pay to have it shipped back. This cost me $55 out of pocket since I had to insure it (didn't have to, but felt it needed to be). My only wish would be that maybe they could offer to mail or email a prepaid shipping label next time (for warranty work/repairs).

Overall, my issues were handled in a much more timely manner than I was originally expecting. The phone call to me by the service tech was also a very nice touch. It's much appreciated.

Re: Schmidt & Blunder terrible service !!!!

Guy i shoot F class with calls them Shit and Bender but that doesnt stop him from having one on his rifle.

Re: Schmidt & Blunder terrible service !!!!

I knocked the illumination knob off my S&B 5-25. totally my fault. I called them on a monday and sent it off with a return autho on tuesday. They called me when it arrived and asked if I needed a loaner while this one was going to be sent back to Germany. I was blown away. I took them up on their offer and by Wednesday the next week,I had the same scope, reticle and all,at my door. After 5 weeks they contacted me and said they needed the loaner back because they were shipping my repaired scope,I arranged to purchase the loaner since it was now used and got my repaired scope to boot. Customer service doesn't get any better than that. Made me a customer for life.

Re: Schmidt & Blunder terrible service !!!!

I bought S&B over march for the sole reason of CS. March had a strange warranty and I live about 30 minutes from their Ashburn center and my parents actually live 4 miles up route 7.

Re: Schmidt & Blunder terrible service !!!!

I had a really positive customer experience with S&B last year.
I sent my PM2 back to them because it "seemed" like it had darkened over the years thinking to myself that maybe the lens coatings have degraded over time. They told me no problem they would look at it just in case.

A week later I got a call from the technician who was working on my scope saying it looked fine to him but he would replace the lenses with new ones anyways and take it out and check it against other scopes he had in the shop. He called me again 5 days later after he had examined, cleaned it and replaced the lenses letting me know it was good to go and on its way back to me. S&B also sent me a free cleaning kit.

All this cost me absolutely nothing other than shipping to S&B. And you know what else? I bought the scope used too.

If that isn't customer service I sure as shit don't know what is.

Re: Schmidt & Blunder terrible service !!!!

Is he dealing with S&B or taking the scope to the --s hole that sold it to him

Re: Schmidt & Blunder terrible service !!!!

i'm sitting here wondering if the scope you sold me "for your friend" was one of the one's involved in this clusterfuck?

Good CS is a great thing.

I've been talking back and forth with Syliva from S&B USA and shes been great answering all my questions in a timely professional manner. Ive never had to service my S&B but from what ALOT of people say it doesn't seem like i'll have a bad experience IF i do.

Of course there are outliers and thats unfortunate. But i think as long as the customer remains professional and courteous most often the CS people will bend over backwards to keep them in good graces.

S&B glass is constructed from the tears of angels and the tube is made from Unobtainium. You simply do not find better glass on earth. Things look clearer through my S&B's than they do in person @ 3 yards away!

Did you get a chance to check your serial yet? Not that I wouldn't buy a S&B service center repaired scope, but it's always nice to know if you got the qazi-shaft!

I have 2 of the same... Worth every single penny!

Re: Schmidt & Blunder terrible service !!!!

I have a number of Schmidt and Bender scopes. These particular rifles are ones that I do shoot quite a bit. As you can see a couple of my favorite things are Accuracy International and Schmidt and Bender. Although, all manufacturers have issues. On 6/2/10 I purchased two 5 - 25X S&B's with MTC turrets. On both scopes the elevation turret malfunctioned. It would not go past 10 mils into the second revolution. Although the round I was shooting in the rifle didn't require that much elevation, the turrets were still malfunctioning. Mark at S&B said it would be approximately 3 months to replace the turrets. I communicated this to Alex at Euro Optics who I purchased the scopes from and told him that I could not wait 3 months. Alex said he would send me replacement scopes with standard turrets on them. I sent the defective scopes back to Alex and he had them repaired. On 07/29/11 I purchased two more 5 - 25X S&B's, the MTC turrets were engraved incorrectly. I communicated this information with Schmidt & Bender and they said they were aware of the issue and would send me two new turrets. It was nine months before I received the new turrets. Another thing that has me extremely annoyed is that two years ago S&B said they were going to build a 1 - 8X 24 short dot PMII and a 3 - 20X PMII. They figured they would have it on the market within six months to a year, it has now been over two years and nobody has received any of the 1 - 8X 24 short dots PMII and a few people have received the 3 - 20X PMII. I feel that is kind of like a come on to announce something and then never hit the market with it. Don't get me wrong, I still like the product and I will continue to purchase them but as I said before, all manufacturing companies have issues, Schmidt and Bender as well. I posted the picture of some of my S&B scopes so you know I am not just blowin smoke.
