I'm loading with 87gr V-max, win brass, win primer, and have tried H4350, H4895, and Re15. About 34-35gr with Re15, 40-41gr with H4350. I'm close to max load according to manuals, but the load density is only about 70%. Re15 is less at about 60%. I'm just guessing at the percentages, but when I shake the round I can really hear the powder bounce around. Is this alright? A load closer to full capacity would be more consisent right?

Re: 243win load density

I use 46g vit n160 with lapua 90g molly scenar and 95g berger vld bullet which gives exellent acuracy with my 24in 243 barrel.

Re: 243win load density

But does the powder fill the case or is there still space in the case?

Re: 243win load density

I had the same issue and recently switched to hybrid 100 v it is between h4350 and 4831. case density is much better and I realy like how it meters. Still working up loads with it but like the case fill i get

Re: 243win load density

Read thru a lot of powder info from the manufacturers. They've already done the homework for us all pertaining to safety issues. And I've seen a 243 Win go kaboom from a person not filling the case enough. The primer ignition jumped across the top of the powder and detonated. Use a powder that gets the velocity you need and fills the case nicely. I stick with bullets on the heavy side for 243 Win so I can use a powder that fills the case better. I went strictly with a Sierra 100gr Pro Hunter(flat base), H4831 and H1000, and get .80 MOA or better. BTW....243 Win is an overbore and a lot of folks aren't aware of it. Is your 87gr bullet a boattail??? My Rem 700 243 Win hates boattails, but flat base bullets fly very well.
