Rifle Scopes Millet quality vs SS or Leup. quality

It's looking like I'm going to need more power on my scope than I orignally thought. Seems my eyes are worse than I thought. That being said... I am going to need to look at higher magnification in a variable. The budget is tight (who's isn't these days) so I'm wondering about having a top end on a varible of 16x or higher. How does the Millet TRS-1 Tactical 4-16x 50 (.1 mil click) stack up against SS or Leup? Or am I talking apples and oranges??

I have a trs-1 on my Howa. And my buddy has a 4-14x44 leupy gold ring on his remmy. Side by side at max power looking 5 miles away, both were just as clear. Virtually identical in light transmission and object clarity. But the Millet is only $350ish. So Im a fan.

trying to keep the budget low as possible. base budget $300 to $400; if I have to go up to $500 to $600 to get a quality scope that I won't outgrow...so be it

the fixed SS scopes are an option (non HD ) 10x, 12x , maybe the 16x. Hear the HD 10x is a great scope ..but at $700 it is at the outer limits (and then some) of my budget. Come on Facebook "likes" on the new SWFA coupon sale!!
Not hot about leupolds. Not sure about Bushy's. Nikon looks nice..but don't care for the reticle styles.

Too much darn info...not enough time or moola. can't afford to make a mistake

I have the trs-1. I was on a very tight budget when I got it. I know there is better glass out there no doubt, but I am actually very pleased with it. It takes adjustments and goes back to zero every time. I have a Zeiss on a hunting rifle of mine and I can tell a difference in glass quality but the Millett is still very good in my option. Hope this helps.
