I certainly agree that the TT and ZCO are tops in every category - they are just way outside the OP's price range. That is why I recommended the ATACR. Sounds like we have very similar taste in optics.

ZC 4x20 and TT 315m are both great optics.

I prefer to see turret markings all the time. I also slightly prefer the G2MD reticle.

I came to love that reticle from a couple premier light tactical hunters I picked up that had the reticle. Wonderful for hunting.

If I were to choose just one hunting scope, it would be Tangent TT315H with the mrad reticle.

However, it is well above the OP's $2000 limit. Given his reticle visibility requirements, I'd consider Leupold Mark4HD 4.5-18x52 with illuminated PR1 Mil. The new Telson Toxin 3-18x50 has a nicely visible reticle. Both are in the $1500 range.

I am very fond of Vortex Razor HD-LHT 4.5-22x50 and still have one (which is not mean feat given how many scopes come and go here). However, the reticle on the Telson and Leupold is a little more prominent on low power.

If you want SFP, you can get S&B Zenith 3-12x50 for $2k.

My experience pretty much mirrors jbuck88.
The NF 2.5-10 outperforms its specs.
The 4-16 x42 ATACR is stellar and what I have on my long range hunting rifle.
I’m planning to check out the mk4hd 2-10 and 4.5-18 soon as well.

How does the nxs 2.5-10 and the atacr 4-16 compare in glass/image quality ?

The ATACR image quality is better, but not enought to make it tangible difference.

The smaller size makes up for the slight edge on glass clarity. The nxs 2.5-10 is on my "compact" 20" 6.5cm, the atacr is on my 24" 300wsm.

I ran a NF 2.5-10 on my 18 inch 7-08 for a short bit. It is a great scope and sitting at 23/24(?) ounces, it isn’t overly heavy.

The glass on the 2.5-10 is perfectly suited to anything that you might want a 10x scope for.
The 4-16 has a slight edge, but it’s not enough to be an issue
