Ok, getting ready for 300 WM build arriving in a few weeks. I picked up some new Norma brass last week, got them resized and trimmed up (2.610") and they're ready. I've got a surplus of Fed 215m primers so I'll probably use them.

What I need help with is what you 300 WM shooters are using. I plan running 180-210 gr. VLD's for paper punching and 168 gr. Barnes TSX or 165 gr. Nosler Accubonds for hunting. My barrel is an Obermeyer 11 twist 24" M24 contour. Any suggestions for powder/bullet combinations, and how far off the lands are you running?

thanks,
Jason

Re: Loads for 300 WM - Need input guys

I've been using...
Fed brass full length sized shoulder pushed back .003 and trimmed to 2.612
WLR primers
H1000 75grains
210 Berger VLD
Seated right on the lands
2750 fps @ half MOA all day long

Re: Loads for 300 WM - Need input guys

Josh, here. If you don't mind, I'll shadow your post. I just got a new 300 WinMag. I'll add a question. Where and which brass? Should I go with Winchester or .....? Surplus? Also, what happened to the "favorite load" post. I remember seeing one, Or was I dreaming?I could be getting alzheimers.

Re: Loads for 300 WM - Need input guys

The favorite load post is at the very top of this subforum. In it you'll see a 300WM-300WSM thread. Print it out and you'll likely find powder and bullet combos that match what you are looking to load with. My favorite bullet for 300 WM currently is 208 AMAX using RE22 or IMR 4831. These powders, together with H1000, seem to be most popular ones.

For 180s I run 75.5grs RE22, WLR primers, very good load for sure.

Re: Loads for 300 WM - Need input guys

The reloading thread at the top does have a lot of good information, but one thing I noticed was that most of the loads I have found for RL-22 and 210 bergers are at the high end of the scale. After a lot of trial and error with my rifle shooting RL-22,210 bergers, I have found 69 grains shoots the tightest groups and lowest ES. I'm shooting .020 off the lands. I guess what I'm trying to say is don't assume you need to be pushing max loads to be where your rifle is shooting the best.

Thanks to Littlecalm. The trouble with getting old is, I can't find anything without my glasses, or a scope!<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Originally Posted By: littlecalm</div><div class="ubbcode-body">The favorite load post is at the very top of this subforum. Re: Loads for 300 WM - Need input guys

I wouldn't use the 210 vlds for paper punching. They are devastating on game. I shot a 4 deer at ranges from 375 to 550 yards and none of them moved. Load is 72.5 r22 at 3.602" oal. Doing 2870 to 2900 from muzzle. That's all I shoot.

Re: Loads for 300 WM - Need input guys

Of course, I didn't mention that you can go blind reading the entire load data thread!

Re: Loads for 300 WM - Need input guys

I've had really good results out to 1k with Winchester brass, standard 210M primers, 72.7 gr of RL-22 with a 190 SMK at 3.5 OAL (Navy A-191 load)

Re: Loads for 300 WM - Need input guys

check out the reloaders depot on the forum... more than enough data to get you going

Re: Loads for 300 WM - Need input guys

With the hybrid 215 I've had luck around 76gr H1000.. went off data for 210 vld so not sure what the max load is

Re: Loads for 300 WM - Need input guys

208 amax 72.2 grains H4350 win brass federal match primers 2890fps I love this load for my gun stick with the amax and do it all I use to shoot the 190 smks and after switching to the 208s I now own a laser gun

Re: Loads for 300 WM - Need input guys

I recognize a lot of these loads, I have come up with about the same. 190 VLD h-1000 81.0 fed 215 .005 off 3100fps

210 VLD h-1000 77.5 fed 215 .020 off 2900fps

Re: Loads for 300 WM - Need input guys

I'm gonna try that load. Isn't it a blast, when ya "cook up" something, and it works!!!!<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Originally Posted By: nicko</div><div class="ubbcode-body">208 amax 72.2 grains H4350 win brass federal match primers 2890fps I love this load for my gun stick with the amax and do it all I use to shoot the 190 smks and after switching to the 208s I now own a laser gun </div></div>

Re: Loads for 300 WM - Need input guys

I'am have good luck with reload 22 and SMK 190gn and SMK 200gn.But going to try 208A-max, very soon.

Re: Loads for 300 WM - Need input guys

76Gr of H-1000, Norma Brass, .010 out of the lands, Fed 215M, Hornady 208 A-Max out of a 24" Krieger 1:10 5R gives bug holes!

Re: Loads for 300 WM - Need input guys

I am using 75.5 gr of 4831sc with 180 accubonds 3.490 oal and I am getting 3050 fps

Re: Loads for 300 WM - Need input guys

Also working up a load for the 230s right now im at 67.8gr of IMR 4831 not sure what the fps is but it seems to shoot well at 900 will continue to work up to max load.

According to the data Berger sent me:

230 Grain OTM IMR 4831 56.0 gr. 2398 fps. 62.0gr. 2603 fps. 90.0%

I guess they are very conservative on their provided data if you are not not having a problem loading 5.8 gr. over their suggested max.

I am getting bugholes with 71.5 gr. of H-1000 / 230 OTM's / Norma Brass / Federal 215M primers / Seated .030" out of the lands.

Re: Loads for 300 WM - Need input guys

I am using Berger 215 and 230 Hybrids, win brass cci 250s, h1000, 26" barrel
All seated kissing the lands. 2.935" to the ogive
73 - 74 grs looking very good for the 215s running 2720fps
75.5 is pushing max but looks really good at 2800 fps average.

For the 230s, I loaded up to 73.3 grs and didn't get close to max running 2687 fps average. I have a 1:9.5 twist and feel the 215s are shooting better, but will up the charge on the 230s before judgment.

Btw, the magneto speed is awesome.

Re: Loads for 300 WM - Need input guys

Well not sure about the berger load data but I had a book tell me the max for the IMR 4831 was 68.0, but no it was 90 degrees down here last weekend and no pressure issues. my best group at 900 was 67.2 and 67.8 will try again on another day to see which one is best. Wish I had a chrony
