i'm about to finish off my 1 lb. can of Varget and open a new 8 lb. jug. I can't seem to find anything that looks like lot numbers on either can, but the load data printed on the label is the same. would it be safe to load with the same charge or do i need to go through my ladder test again? just trying to be safe.

thanks,
Luke

Re: Vaget lot numbers ?

The lot # is on the side of the container between the label info running vertical not horizontal . You should be fine to start off with you normal load. Typically I start off new lots of powder by loading 5 rounds and testing to confirm data and have found it only needing a few tenths adjustment if anything. That's why you buy big lots of powder, bullets, brass and primers at one time so the process is minimal when reloading but Hogden is usually very good about their consistency.

should be safe unless your shooting hot loads at the top of the load range, that being the case you would be looking out for pressure signs anyway. i use varget for heavy .223 and .308 and see very little diference fom drum to drum certainly there would be no needto re-formulate your load, if you did find poorer groups, you could go .2g or so eithor way. i have heard of people getting a "slow batch" and having to up the charge .5g or so , but have no problems my self. i suppose with powders shipped world wide, no way of knowing how long its been stored ect ther is always a chance of somthing going awry.

Here's an 8 pounder and a one pound bottle.

All the talk about Varget lots giving variable performance makes you wonder if it's just not as temp sensitive as they say for some folks?
Our temp doesn't vary as much down south and I don't see any variance and have tried several lots.

Re: Vaget lot numbers ?

I think it's all mumbo jumbo - i've never had to adjust a load lot-to-lot from varget.

Re: Vaget lot numbers ?

being a chemical compound i would think modern powders like Varget are made with precision and consistency and other than a bad batch any difference wouldn't be noticeable.

I would also think the same be true for all Precision loading supplies bullets.

I'm about to find out i have to pick up another # and some Bullets.
