I was thinking with all the other 6.5s out there why not a 6.5 jap. I am about to start reloading for my arsika type 38. So I was wondering would this be a good choice for a long range precision build? I know there is not alot of brass out there but the bullet selection is huge. I would love to see if anyone has built a 6.5 jap.

Thanks
Mike

Why not? What are the problems? Is it just that no one else is doing it or is the some big problem I don't know about? With all the other 6.5 out there I don't understand why this would be so much different.

You can form brass from .220 swift cases if you have to, so in saying that it suffers from a too small boiler room to push the heavy bullets at any kind of acceptable speed for long range.

Interesting cartridge though.

Think about the cost to start:
not drilled and tapped;
having a custom scope base made;
new bolt handle installed;
new trigger custom made;
new stock custom made;

Then you can buy a new barrel, have it trued, bedded and put together, and buy a scope. But then again it's only money...............

Good luck

Re: 6.5x50 jap build

I was planning on using a Remington action not my arisaka. All of those cost go along with any other build. Cost is not my major concern. I just thought it is a neat round and would like to see what I could do with it.
