i know this isnt a supressor question but it is an NFA question, so here it goes. I want to have one of my AR's shortened and put a can on it. my question is can i just chopp the 16inch i have now and register it? or do i need to order and complete upper or complete gun? or just a barrel and register the one of the lowers I have? not sure how that all works.

Re: SBR

so what actually gets registered? the upper or the whole gun? since uppers dont have serial numbers

Re: SBR

If you form one it you have to wait until the form is back, If a Manufacturer does it they have to hold it while the paperwork is being processed

Re: SBR

Where does he say he wants a 7" barrel?

You could chop your 16" but would probably need the gas port opened up as well unless you plan to shoot suppressed most/all the time. I would personally sell it and purchase whatever barrel length upper you intend to use.

You don't need a complete gun unless you want a factory SBR that's already registered as one.

Re: SBR

i have like 4 ar's one is three gun, one is a back up for three gun, and one is a trainer for three gun (22) and one is a 20 inch precision/ varminter and i dont really have a "cool" AR so i thought maybe i should build a shorty. i just ordered my first can and already looking at buying another so thats why i want a shorty. just something short supressed that i can shoot for fun no other reason

Re: SBR

o yea and i have lots of extra parts. can put one together if i had a barrel

Re: SBR

this is the look i want minus the 9mm

Re: SBR

If you like a DI gun take a look at LMT's MRP system and SBR uppers.... A teensy spendy but te system rocks...

As far as building I personally wouldn't go shorter than 10" as it is known to cause excessive wear on the suppressor baffles and voids a lot of mfr. warranties. If you do build you have to do the paperwork for a Form 1, You have to get the lower you choose engraved with your name/the name of your trust, and our city and state. AFTER you get the form 1 back you can perform your build. While you are doing the barrel swap on the upper bio ahead and put on some rails. A local gunsmith would be good to o to if you have any issues.

Re: SBR

I know my way around ar's pretty well, mostly for three gun and prairie dogs or dmr. I haven't built one for the coolness factor yet. So well see how it goes

Re: SBR

You can Form 1 your lower, just dont! buy or shorten up your barrel until you get your form 1 back approved from the atf.

Dont go with a 7" barrel if you want to suppress it. Go minimal 10.25" on the barrel. I went 11" the short barrels are kind of hard on the cans.

I have been around this topic mannny times PM if you need any advice or question.
I think I have posted a pic of my baby on here somewhere.
