Range Report made it to 1000yds with 7mm-08

I had an opportunity this weekend to go out with a work buddy and and see what my 7mm-08 could do at long range. So far I had only shot up to 375 yards.

After getting our ranges corrected we tried at 500yds. Dialed in 11.5 MOA and shot away. Hit every time. I couldn't have more excited. The wind was very slight if not completely dead.

Moved back to 700yds and found some shade. It was getting hotter and wind was starting to stir. Dialed in what Shooter recommended and hit! I shot three times and hit three times. We drive to the target to take a quick photo.

Shot several more and 700yds and then moved back for 1000yds. Wind was getting to be a little stronger. Mirage was horrible by this point. Even zoomed out it was still just boiling like crazy. Dialed in the scope and it was high. Took a couple of shots to get on target. We managed to get the elevation dialed in but watching the dust from the misses (forgot wind flags or ribbons) sometimes the dust would blow right and sometimes left. Anyways, got three on target and snagged a pic.

Things to do next time, bring wind flags or ribbons, more ammo, better tables and better seats, white spray paint.

Here the three hits at 1000yds. He only had 10 shots left by the time we got to 1000yds.

Damn I hate dealing with mirage that bad....and I do almost every time out

Good call on the white paint....anything but just doesn't work as well.

I've yet to shoot to 1000yds yet, farthest i've shot is 600yds. But damn as humid as it is around here i don't think i've seen mirage that bad.

In case anyone wants to know, we were shooting near Robert Lee, Texas. This is right in the middle of where the wild fires were last year. If you look closely to the photo of us at the shooting line, there are a lot of overturned burned trees to the right. Its much greener than normal thanks to the recent rains as well.

At the end of the road, it looks like it sweeps across the side of the hill in the distance. That's a massive fire break cut into those hills and doesn't connect to the road in front of us. Next time we go out we will try to get on one of those to shoot.
