Ok,couple questions here.

First question for the people who have DBM's in there 700's. Are you able to just drop a round in the receiver and roll the bolt forward to chamber it,or do you have to load it into the mag then put it into the rifle? My SPS Tac has the hinged floor plate and I can just drop it in and roll it forward.

Second question for DBM owners, what is the COL for loading into a mag,is it fairly standard for AICS and Alpha mags?

Re: Reloading,COL,and DBM question.

With the magazine inserted, you can load it singly from the breech but with the magazine removed, it is a bit more difficult as it wants to drop through.

I have a C-Products AI clone and it is missing the front metal strip the genuine AI mags have and this allows up to like 2.950 or so in my rifle. The actual AI mags are more restrictive because of the extra metal strip, but I don't know by how much.

Thanks, that is exactly the info I was after. You like your C-products DBM?

You load the mag and chamber from the mag. When you run dry, you can drop one in on top of the mag follower and chamber one at a time.

Not sure about all by my .308 AICS mags measure 2.810 internally so I load to 2.800 +/- .003 (consistent with several reloading manuals) to make sure they feed reliably from the mag.

I have an Atlasworx DBM. It's a C-Products magazine. I like them a lot, but I think they discontinued the line. At least Midway shows it as a "discontinued by manufacturer" item:

Re: Reloading,COL,and DBM question.

Thanks guys. Im wanting to replace my hinged plate on my hogue stock tactical and was concerned with being able to drop one in from the top and shoot if I wanted to.

Re: Reloading,COL,and DBM question.

C-products mags AICS clones suck. Sure you can load slightly longer but the fit in the bottom metal blows and the lips will wreck your brass. I have to hold my c-prod mags up from the bottom when racking the bolt in order to push the next round high enough to be stripped out of the mags. I have HateCA's DBM and my buddy who has a Badger DBM has the same problem with c-prod mags. I seriously regret buying a few as I had to go back and buy the real thing to replace the shitty c-prods.

Re: Reloading,COL,and DBM question.

Also, I think most people here would advise you to not put any money into the Hogue stock to open it up to accommodate most of the bottom metal out there (unless you're doing the work yourself). Upgrade to a fiberglass stock if you can $wing it.

Re: Reloading,COL,and DBM question.

My real deal AICS mags will handle a COAL of 2.880 inches without modification and with a small allowance for variation. I think the actual measurement is 2.890. They feed reliably in testing at 2.880, but I don't know if they would under field conditions as I have not tried it. Rifle is also an SPS Tactical in an HS stock with Surgeon bottom metal.

Re: Reloading,COL,and DBM question.

Oh I know the hogue it terrible. But this is a set in the right direction. Ill be doing the work myself and the new stock might be next month unless something works out this week. So this DBM can be swapped over to the new stock.

Re: Reloading,COL,and DBM question.

Personally, I wouldn't bother trying to fit a DBM to a Hogue stock unless it would fit the standard BDL inlet. Most require hogging out a fair bit of material and I feel like that might make that already flimsy stock even worse. To each his own. I did look up the Alpha mags and apparently they make two varieties in .308. One will accept cartridges up to 2.850 inches and the other will accept cartridges up to 2.985. That's actually long enough to jam a 175 SMK in my SPS. Only problem is unless you notch the underside of the receiver you can't feed them that long in a stock Remington 700 short action.

Re: Reloading,COL,and DBM question.

The way I see this hogue stock is just a stepping stone. I'm going to inlet this thing just so I know how its done and teach myself how to do this.

The alpha type 2 mag is the one your talking about. And yes,you do have to have a slightly modded reciever bottom to allow the longer cartridge to chamber correctly. I did some home work after posting this.

I'm sure ill have my hands full inletting this stock. No biggie,a new one will be on next month and the DBM will be able to be bolted into it with no inletting. I just have this issue of not leaving shit alone.
