I was going to make a joke about asking the girlfriend or someone's mom...but I'll re frame from that.
I use the AltaFLEX Coyote AltaLok...I think I paid $30 for them...and I haven't even thought about any other knee pads since.

Nontactical type ones have been a necessary tool for me for several years... Hate to say it but craftsman makes some really good ones with patella relief " donut" gel rings that really help out... Now as far as tactical ones I have no idea lol

Thanks guys! I ordered some Altas with an Amazon card I had. I'll use them for a while, anyway, although I would like to try those Arcteryx pads sometime - they look really comfortable, and I like the built-in shin guard.

661 kyle strait knee pads can be found for 20 or less. I use them for MTB, Working on the cars, Snowboarding, and anything else hat i want some cushion around the joints. They fit awesome and do not ride up or fall down. also leave full range of motion to move around as pleased.

+1 for that! They are really great. But where do you find them for $20??? I paid damn near $60 for mine...

I think we know why you started wearing elbow pads then, the grab bar on top of your Competition helmet makes sense too.

Snap-On... they are built differently and do not wad up behind our knees and shut off circulation. The only draw back is they only come in bright red...

OK, now that I have both the Altas and the Arcteryx, and have worn them in a class, in the yard, under the house, and on the job, I can say that those of you who recommended the Altas need to try the Arcteryx! Holy cow, no comparison. The padding is a little thicker/more comfortable on the Altas, but EVERYTHING else about them is inferior to the Arcteryx knee pads. Thanks for the help, guys.

You people who laugh at knee pads never shot a 1000 yard match at a Marine base.
Those guys blacktop the firing line. Even when I was a young man I used knee and elbow pads on those ranges.
After shooting four matches (Any/Any, Any/Iron, Service Rifle, and team match) you realize you arnt that tough.
I don't use nothing special, just the vollyball type found at box stores. They worked good enough.

Dude, yeah. My knees sound like a jar of marbles when I move --hell, they'd give me away from 50m on a clear quiet night. I got that from sucking it up, that and a huge scar when I wiped out with 100lbs of gear running through volcanic rocks.
I used the issue crap they gave us at the time. Knee pads were kind of new gear in '01. They looked just like skateboard pads but camo. They didn't stay up well for the kind of activity a soldier does.
Today if I had to wear them, I'd probably go with the Point Blank IIIA ones. If you are gonna wear the junk, may as well get a little protection, you know? They have elbows too. Wish they had 'em when I was in.
