Ok, just got back from being at the range all day. Im looking for all opinions, suggestions, and if you think Im on to something here. Based on what you see, where do you think my Node is, and if Im at my OCW?

Barrel length is 22"
Caliber 308
Federal 210M Primers
Win once fired brass
Varget Powder
175gr Bullets are Sierra MK
178gr Bullets are Hornady AMAX

For all these tests, I did the "Round Robin" method, and waited approx 1 minute between firing each round. Each shot group is 5 bullets at 100 yards. The Chronograph was set 14' away from the muzzle. On the Chronograph data where you see a "-20" & "-10", that is how many thousandths off the lands the bullets were loaded too. I loaded a total of 20 rounds each with the seating depths "-20" & "-10" for the Sierra 175MK's. To the lands, my Ogive measurement is 2.254. Where you see the "ES" & "AVG" above each target that is the "Extreme Spread" & "Average Velocity" for that given target.
The small circles are 1", the bigger ones are 2".

Here are some pictures of my brass. One thing that is baffling me is the shiny marks on the lip of the case head. When looking at the pictures, the marks will be on the bottom. Out of the 80 or so rounds I fired yesterday about 15 or so had these marks. The marks appeared from the lowest powder charge to the highest.

Re: Hows it look?

I just got back from shooting 178 AMAXs with 43.5gr Varget(sorry no pics). I'm shooting .01" off the lands in a 1/10 twist Savage. I'm getting tighter groups at that powder load, but it looks your rifle likes them over 44gr. I'm going to try them again tomorrow at 44 & 44.5gr with some 43.5gr also to make sure nothing else has changed. I'm using Lapua Palma small primer brass. Someone at the range let me use their chronograph awhile back and I was getting an ES of 7. I think that Palma brass helps.

Re: Hows it look?

I'm no expert but I am thinking 44.5 is looking pretty good. I think you need to reshoot the 44.5 20 off again to see if the group will tighten up. Next step would be to add a few hundred yards and see what happens

Not bad if these were on the 600 yard at Bradford Sportsman's Farm

For real? That would be 0.081 MOA at 600. It's 0.486 at 100 which ain't too bad in my book.

Gene,

Whats the name of the program you use to determine your MOA like you are using below?

I've actually wanted to know that for awhile now...and was just getting ready to post a question! Now it looks like I don't need to.

Re: Hows it look?

Another range trip yesterday. I had some advise from a member on here. But some how, yesterday was FUBAR, and I had my head up my ass!!
The Chrono must have been messing up bad! There was one round that hit 2800+ FPS, and a few that made it to 2500 FPS. Both these situations had the same Grains in each round.

On the 44gr bullet, I have no clue where the 3rd round went. The 44.2, there are 3 rounds in that hole.

The 44.4 has 3 rounds in that hole.

The 44.5 has 3 rounds in that hole.
