Which is the best for cleaning your precision bolt action rifle jag or loop? I was told the loop was best, because it keep the rod centered during both pushing and pulling the rod thru the barrel.

Neither matters. It's personal preference. ...and last time I checked that bullet going 2700fps down your barrel grinding on the rifling is doing a lot more work to the barrel than you cleaning rod ever will. Notice I called it "work" not damage. Barrels are like tires, burn em off and throw a new one on. Probably not the answer your looking for but it's my 2 cents.

Used loops for most of my life and have recently switched to jags and like them a lot. A proper fitting jag with a good patch seems to work easier and clean faster for me, it's always trial and error to get the right size patch in a loop.

I have yet to find anything else that works as well. Standard "piercing" jags leave the patch all bunched up. Eyelet type patch holders don't give you even coverage and can allow the brass to drag the bore.
It's not for nothing that smart shooters use bore guides and coated rods. You don't want anything dragging on the lands if you can avoid it.

JAG for me... I always felt like a loop wasn't getting full contact with the barrel.

definitely proper size jag and patches with a coated rod through a bore guide. Throw the bore snake away too.
