I am always happy when I deal Leupold. They may not make the most tacticool sniper scope but they work well for 99% of the users here and the people that work there are always great to deal with.

Re: Leupold Scopes

Yes they are great to deal with especially when you send the scope back 2 or 3 times a year to be "fixed"

Re: Leupold Scopes

Hey H4everything, You'll find that most of the fellows here are NF, S&B and other high end scopes shooters. Leupold to them are not that high on the list. I have a Mk4 4.5-14X50 on my TRG and love it. I shoot the gun every week and track up and down with no issues. I have been a Leupold owner going back 30 years and have never had to send a single scope back. Now I'm sure that some get sent back just like I'll bet that NF and S&B go back too, but I noticed how fast some of these guy's jumped when they read what you posted. Forgive them for they do not know what they do....

Re: Leupold Scopes

I currently own two Leupold scopes and one USO. I have owned another USO in the past, and have another on the way.

Both Leupolds have been returned to the factory; one for a canted reticle, the other was due to the elevation turrent unsrewing from the erector housing. Neither of the USO that I've shot have done anything other than perform beyond my expectation. I won't speak to any other brands - this is my experience. Take it for what it's worth.

Re: Leupold Scopes

hink, If you don't mind! what kind and how much shooting do you do yearly. I don't mean to sound sarcastic but do you do military soldier jumping out of planes and other rough type of shooting. Man I do normal bench, prone type of shooting with my TRG 308. I usually shoot about 200-300 rounds per session I realize that may not be allot maybe compared to maybe you or others but my gun and scope get a good workout, I guess then I must be lucky because my Mk4 has never had any issues. Do you like your USO more than NF or S&B??

Re: Leupold Scopes

For the purposes of this comparison, round count and type of shooting is not terribly relevant. I'll go as far as to say that I'll shoot any time of the year, and rifles get a ride in the back of the pickup on the way out to the range, and the scope and rifle experience nearly identical conditions. One fails while the other does not. I've put my rifles together over several years, and while I'm not in a mood to tear my stuff up, I still want it to perform to a minimum acceptable level. Basic expectations are that the optic remain in one piece and hold a zero. Past that, expectations are based on brand and price point.

I don't own any NF or S&B scopes; as a result I'll not speak to those. Not that I dislike either, but my experience does not make me qualified to speak. Also peterh, while your mk4 may have performed admirably for you, my personal experience with Leupold has encouraged me to purchase glass from other companies.

Re: Leupold Scopes

I have owned two Leupold Mark 4 ER/T scopes, and they both had tracking issues. One was a 4.5-14 and the other was a 8.5-25. The glass was nice, and they are built sturdy, but I don't bounce mine off the ground regularly, so that doesn't apply to me. Mine simply would not track up (35 minutes on one and 11 mils on the other), and be zeroed at 100 yards when I came back down. It wasn't a consistent shift either. It would always be an inch or two off in a random direction after tracking back down.

I had a PST before both Leupolds that I loved more than either Leupold. I have used many Leupolds as well as Nightforces, USO's, Premiers, S&B's, Vortexs, Bushnells, and even Barska's. I would recommend all of them (besides the Barska obviously) over a Leupold for precision work, but that's just from my experiences.

The VX3's I've used have all worked flawlessly though...

I know, right? I couldn't imagine someone actually wanting their $1,500-$1,800 scope to work right. What a concept...

Those were the great years...

Re: Leupold Scopes

Well I would like to get a S&B but I just can't justify the cost. maybe some day...

Re: Leupold Scopes

I have 3 Leupold's and 4 NF scopes, none of them have ever been back for repair. The 3 Leupys are VariX-III EFR's.
