Re: Let's solve this savage dbm problem

Ahhh, yes. I was thinking that it was going to be 7 rounds, so that is good news Brother!! I am glad that you are happy with them...

Re: Let's solve this savage dbm problem

I have a 10fp,(308) center feed, 4.40 spacing, savage bottom metal. What mags do I need to to send in. I got a number for a mag body, 105663, I can't find that part anywhere.

Will the axis mags work with my rifle?

Axis are different than the standard Savage mag and do not interchange.

Not sure what you mean "send in" ? My mags are complete, ready to use.

Let me just say I have one of these mags and they are truly top notch! I would still like to try a ratamg out but The darkeagle one has been put to the test in the AZ dirt/sand and with that AR style string/aluminum follower it doesn't bind up and get stopped up like the 2 stock mags I have for my 10FP. Can't got wrong with one of these!

Re: Let's solve this savage dbm problem

I was asked again about the differences in using the standard factory Savage magazine parts, versus using the Savage Axis/Edge magazine assembly. The Axis/Edge assemblies is what I actually prefer now, even though the standard design works well.

I had a few of them to build, so I thought I would post a pic of the differences before I mailed them off tomorrow...

Top left, 308 RatMag 10 round of standard design.
Top right, 22-250 RatMag 10 round of standard design.
Bottom left, 308 RatMag 10 round using the Axis/Edge assembly.
Bottom right, 308 RatMag "15 rounder" using the Axis/Edge assembly.

I really like the magazine assemblies that use the Axis/Edge magazine to convert from. Check them out!!

Dan does make a nice piece of kit for sure. His turn around time is probably better than mine too.

Nice stuff man!!

Re: Let's solve this savage dbm problem

I can't attest to yours yet... Sometime when I get a few extra bucks I will be coming your way
smile.gif

I just have to praise Dan as after the 7+ month wait and BS from SSS it was a very welcome relief to have something so topnotch as his mags and I am sure yours are going to match my expectation when I get one. I want to compare the 2 of your mags side by side in the AZ desert sand and see how both work out.

Re: Let's solve this savage dbm problem

Not a problem at all Bud. It is all good as far as I am concerned.

Re: Let's solve this savage dbm problem

Any plans to make one of these for the 223? My wife wants a larger mag for her Savage 12.

Re: Let's solve this savage dbm problem

Just wanted to add that I got one of the 10 round round mags from Dark Eagle. It came looking like a professionally built product, and not something someone made in their garage( nothing wrong with that either though!)

The first day of using it, I had issues with it not clipping in fully and dropping after a shot. To get it clipped in fully I would have to put ALOT of rear/upward pressure. However, by the next time I used it the problem worked itself out. After talking to Dan it seems like its just very small variations in the receiver, so after using it for a day the mag contacts wore away just enough to start locking easily.

So overall its a great product that works good, looks good and feels solid. I would recommend it to anyone looking for an extended magazine solution. If you have any locking issues, I would take it in and out maybe 30-40 times and it will fix itself

Re: Let's solve this savage dbm problem

Im interested in what I've read. I have a 110fcp h&s stock in 300 win mag. Just bought last week. What are my options?

Re: Let's solve this savage dbm problem

I got 2 more Ratmags for my WSM. 7 rounds and absolutely no problems! Thanks again D!

I am not sure if you were asking me or not, but I will give you my answer. Yes, I am currently working on the 204/223 magazine conversion. Follower dive is the biggest issue at the moment, but I have a plan that I believe will cure this situation.

I will be updating this thread as things progress along.

I have it drawn up for the long actions but just haven't had the time to make any prototypes. It's in the works but will be some time yet.

Re: Let's solve this savage dbm problem

I have found a great source for the springs that I needed to complete the 204/223 conversions. I will be working on a prototype of this conversion, and should have it completed shortly.

Stay tuned!!

DK looking forward to the 223 conversions. Or I should say the wife is.

Think u could do one for a 300 win mag model 110 fcp? At least a 5 rounder or know of a source?

Re: Let's solve this savage dbm problem

I don't have a source for the long action magazine bodies to convert. If someone had some cheap surplus magazines that I could do the R&D from, then I might be able to come up with one.

Re: Let's solve this savage dbm problem

OK, guess what guys... I have in my possession, a 15 round high capacity Savage and Savage Axis/Edge magazine!! Fully functional, and I think they look pretty dang good to boot!!

Hey DK--you're breaking new ground again! Awesome.

Re: Let's solve this savage dbm problem

Thanks guys!! I am trying to come up with a long action magazine as well. I will be working on getting the materials come payday. I wish I was a wealthy man, and could just buy what I wanted, when I wanted it... but tis not the case!! LOL

More details to follow on the 15 round 204/223 magazine. I am not completely happy with how it functions, as it could be smoother. Back to the R&D stuff to make the transition smoother, and to also work on the 10 round version!!

Stay tuned!!

Re: Let's solve this savage dbm problem

I am ready to order one for the 223 when available. Please PM.

Re: Let's solve this savage dbm problem

I currently have working designs for the following:

243
260
7mm-08
762x39
308
22-250
6.5 Creedmoor
6.5 Grendel

From all working aspects, I believe that the 300 Blackout is a very doable situation. I just need to double check the host magazine dimensions.

In the works as of today:

204
223
270
6.5x284
30-06

I am sure there will be others to come. Stay tuned!!

I bought 3 mags from z71rat! They are top notch and worked flawlessly in the Savage 10PC. He does TOP OF THE LINE WORK, IMO.

z71rat, i'm interested in getting a few mags.

Re: Let's solve this savage dbm problem

is .223 available in 10 round? i know it's in work.

Re: Let's solve this savage dbm problem

OKAY OKAY OKAY... Here is the "New Scoop" on the long action magazine conversions. The BAR magazine worked out very very well. Quite a bit of work was involved to make this one happen, but I am pleased so far with the results.

This magazine conversion works with the 25-06, 270, and 30-06 long action rounds. It might actually work with others, but that is all the long action brass that I have access to try out.

Here are a few pictures to see what has happened with the design... This particular magazine conversion is for the Savage Axis/Edge rifles, but uses the same components as the standard Savage rifles as well. The only difference is, I have to also cut off the front magazine release tab to be used as standard.

Re: Let's solve this savage dbm problem

DK...call me a slow learner but I've read this post and your answer to Firemeister several times and am still confused. My new 10 FLCP-K (in .308) should be at my LGS on Friday, a bit later than projected due to the fires around our state interrupting shipping, according to my dealer.

Will your 10 round mags work in my new rifle or is it not compatible with what you're building, please? If your mag will work with my model, will you need the detachable box mag that comes with my rifle to complete the project?

Sorry to take your time with this question but would appreciate a bit more clarification when you have a moment to reply.

Thanks again, and keep up the good work. Sounds like a nice little enterprise you've got going.

Re: Let's solve this savage dbm problem

DAMN, I started this thread back in 2010 out of frustration. It's awesome to see that so much has come from it. I'll be honest, I've since switch from my savage but I'm glad that that people jumped on it!

That's EXCELLENT, DK! I'll be forwarding the mag to you early next week, after I take delivery tomorrow or Saturday...as long as the trucks can get through the smoke.

Off to re-read the thread to get ordering/shipping/payment instructions...

Thanks, again, DK. Best news I've had today.

ETA: I appreciate your quick reply, DK. Part of my confusion seems to be I was up reading & posting waaaay past my bedtime when I originally submitted my questions. My bad. And, I'll just pm you for the info I need to get one of these mags ordered. Thank you.

Re: Let's solve this savage dbm problem

Thanks to Rat I just got my "Old Style" Side button savage DBM working.

Borrowed the design and had an armorer who owed me a favor make a set out of a blued steel savage mag and a blued steel g3 mag.

15 rounds to boot!
