I know nothing about rainbow trout but that thing looks like an absolute pig, look at the belly on it.

did you release or cook this one up for dinner?

That's a dandy for a wild fish, I raise them and it's not uncommon for them to reach 20 lbs. and much bigger. But they get very spooky and don't like noise or people when they get that big. Most of the time they won't feed until night and that's why you don't see more big ones caught. A rainbow can live up to 20 years and I have had some that were only 5 years old and weighed around 15lbs. or so. They grow with their environment and that determines how big they will get.

Nice fish. Didn't know they got that big in the lower 48. Up in AK caught of bunch of them that big. I was completely astounded there. Girlfriend at the time caught one that was 34 inches, not sure how much it weighed. They have all the salmon eggs they could ever eat up in AK.

That is a fish of a lifetime. We got catch Steelhead that get huge, and Salmon. Most rainbow trout up in the NE are 1-3 pounds. In large bodies of water you can catch big ones like that but its so damn rare. Sent this to my father also lol.

I was just fishing in the Montana last weekend. I caught a fat 20" rainbow and I thought that was big... I was wrong.

Thats an awesome Rainbow! We used to catch em that size along with Browns,Skamanias, Cohos and Chinook in Lake Michigan during the alewive runs. Couldnt imagine getting one on a flyrod, good shit!
