Well I got into Highpower at the end of last year. been shooting some this year. I have quickly come to realize I need a quality scope stand. I got a Pentax PF80-EDA spotter, but my tripods I have been using in my general shooting before wont work here. So I hear Ray vin is great, creedmoor offers the Pole Cat. I watched the demo video on creedmoors website, seems to make good sense and good design to me. There are several more out there I know. Could use some advice here since these thing seem to be a tad pricey. Right now I am between the Pole Cat and Ray Vin. I have used the Ewing before though its was good.
What stand and why would you recommend it?

Yea The guy that's showing me the ropes is a distinguished but hes been out of the game as far as shooting for a few years. He mostly just coaches and runs matches. Hes set me up so far. I got to use his Ewing stand once. I'm not sure where you get them though. I cant seem to find them in any stores. I have just seen the ray vin at creedmoor and of course the pole cat is only sold by creedmoor.

Check out first-strike stands. For the money they are one of the best.

Re: Scope stand for HP

I have a Ray Vin. The f-class model. I purchased it exclusively due to the prodigious amount of offset that it can provide the scope. You will have to find one used. I do not think Creedmoor Sports is making the f-class base, just the tripod version.

The offset feature really helps to free up mat space for prone work, while allowing proper spotting scope positioning.

The adjustment for the actual scope with the gimbaled head makes it nice as well.

One downside is that due to the offset, the scope stand is not as stable with the scope mounted high... like when you would use it to observe something standing. I have had a gust of wind tip it over.

can you put a wieght on the ray vin? my ewing has a 5 pound weight that screws in the bottom

Ok Vette, here goes... this is my first attempt at posting a pic.

This is what the stand looks like:

With about 4 years of use, I do not think that you really could add the weight below the stand due to clearance problems. I thought about using a soft SCUBA or soft ankle workout weight rigged to the lateral extension/leg. But, it adds weight that you have to haul around and the only time it starts to become unstable is when the scope is adjusted to the uppermost limit.

That condition is rare, and the stand is wonderful to use in the prone, seated, and spotting from a stool.

I bought the Creedmore. They were having a sale last year - 82 Kowa, stand, head, lens protectors, eyepiece, enough 1" tube for offhand, bags for stand/poles/scope - $1300.

So far it has served well. The scope head is very clean in design/use.

I bought the Ray-Vin off set also. With the offset and the Polecat head I can get my scope about a foot or so away from the stand. Not needed but nice if you know you are going to be shooting benched or on your belly and want to create some space.
