Thanks guys!

Bolt work is all caught up.

Re: Phoenix Custom Rifles work pics and reviews

Here is one of the brakes that Keith did for me. This is my wife's grendel and it is very soft shooting. Thanks Keith!

Re: Phoenix Custom Rifles work pics and reviews

PCR put together a barreled action for me in 6.5x47L and I couldn't be happier with the quality of work or level of service. Thanks again Brad/Keith. Here are a couple pics before I paint it.

Re: Phoenix Custom Rifles work pics and reviews

Thanks for the pics. I always neglect to take pictures of completed jobs.
Show us some of it in the stock PLEASE

Those Badger actions are way different than a Remy, obviously. I like them.

Re: Phoenix Custom Rifles work pics and reviews

I apologize for the poorly lit images. I would LOVE to show it in the stock but I'm waiting on XLR. (c'mon Kyle gettin' anxious

) As soon as I get my stock I'll put up some completed pics and taker to the range and post a report.

Re: Phoenix Custom Rifles work pics and reviews

What make stock is that on Brad Johns 7mm.
I like it a lot.

Re: Phoenix Custom Rifles work pics and reviews

Really, really nice bedding job! Out of curiosity, any particular reason you bedded all the way out to the end of the stock? What is the second notch forward of the recoil lug channel? Keep up the great work!

Re: Phoenix Custom Rifles work pics and reviews

Adam,

Its bedded full length because I had to install that front rail, and wanted it to look perfect front to rear. The barrel is free-floated using the same method Mcmillan and many others use. The barrel has a contact pad under the first 4 inches of it. 4 inches is much longer than I usually make a barrel contact pad, but thats how long the previous smith made it so I did the same. The cuts you see in the bedding, is where the free-floating starts and the barrel contact pad ends.

Re: Phoenix Custom Rifles work pics and reviews

Keith,

OK I think I got ya--you had to cut a channel out of the forward end of the stock for the bottom section of the rail assembly to sit down in. Bedding over it cleans it up.

How much clearance do you have in the forward section of bedding up to the barrel? During prep, I imagine the first 4" of the barrel from the breech was bare, but then from the 4" mark to the muzzle had some thick tape to free float it?

Thanks for taking the time to respond. I'm working up the nerve to do my first bedding job and CDI bottom metal installation.

Re: Phoenix Custom Rifles work pics and reviews

Yep you got it. I use a couple pices of mil tape. You can get 10 and 20mil. You pick the freefloat gap.
Thats if you bed the barrel channel too though. It does stiffen the stock but its harder to do, uses double or triple the amount of epoxy, and isnt needed most of the time. So consider how your rifle needs to be bedded.

Re: Phoenix Custom Rifles work pics and reviews

Send the bottom metal inlet to CDI and let them install it. Be sure to send the whole rifle so they can ensure propper feeding before sending it home.

Re: Phoenix Custom Rifles work pics and reviews

Wow, I cant wait to get it Keith! It looks better than I imagined!

Re: Phoenix Custom Rifles work pics and reviews

by the way all respect to PCR because i've heard they have a reputation for doing fine paint work. i just like to dabble with a paint gun myself once in a while. once upon a time i worked in a shop spraying corporate aircraft and so when i get a chance to utilize some of the old skills i figure i might as well take advantage.

Re: Phoenix Custom Rifles work pics and reviews

ya kyle had to make a slightly custom HD long action chassis for my short action m2008 with that fat tube. he is awesome! not too many people out there will accommodate you like that. usually it's like we make this product and that product and if it doesn't fit our specs well then tough luck pal we don't have time for your wierdo crap.

Re: Phoenix Custom Rifles work pics and reviews

I've started on the (EDITED)Kings Arsenal Tac-50!
The PCR Prac50 will be on hold until October.

Mcmillan Tac-50 repeater Action
Lilja 1-15 Navy Contour Chromoly 28.5" NON-Fluted barrel
Jewel trigger or Shilen trigger
Either a Mcmillan, XXX Bastard, or an aluminum brake(which I have yet to look deeper into). Not sure what I think of an aluminum brake.
Chassis to be announced later...

I think Im as excited as the customer about building this rifle. I will be buying some Hornady Match 750gr ammo to test fire it with. Im sure we'll test groups at several distances but Im hoping to get some nice 500 yard groups.

Many more pics to come...

didn't have time to put the trigger or scope on there. wife was hasslin me as it was. cannot wait to get this this out and shooting. it is sooooo comfortable to shoulder. and people give me a hard time about the weight but i absolutely love how much of a tank this thing is. thanks again for the outstanding job PCR.

Re: Phoenix Custom Rifles work pics and reviews

Shit man if youd have sent me the chassis, I would have centered the barrel markings in the center of those windows.
The PCR logo looks great but maan if it was centered in that window.....

Very nice rifle

Re: Phoenix Custom Rifles work pics and reviews

Ya that detail didn't even occur to me until I got the barrel back from you. The funny thing is though it was the first thing I realized when I opened the box and saw that big badass logo. It'll have to go on my list of things to on my next build. By the way that photo wasn't intended to highlight the logo not being centered. There's no way you could have known where it needed to be. I was just trying to show off the brand for everyone on the hide.

Re: Phoenix Custom Rifles work pics and reviews

well i got a chance to take the m2008/6.5x47 to the range and do some limited testing and you'll be pleased to know that it shoots like a dream. it's not too particular with load combinations or bullets which is great. check this out: hornady 129 gr. round nose circa 1969? that group was shot with that hornady round nose. too bad it has such a tremendously poor bc....it takes something like 18+ mils to get to 1000yds

Re: Phoenix Custom Rifles work pics and reviews

Just got my rifle back from PCR, and it's perfect. The bedding is immaculate and tight, and the stock was heavily modified to fit a custom action. The fitting is excellent, and I couldn't ask for better craftsmanship. I'll be displaying this rifle on our counter, and referring all precision work to PCR. Thanks to all the guys who put this thing together for me, it truly is a dream rifle.

Re: Phoenix Custom Rifles work pics and reviews

Wait time on full builds has dropped back to 2 months if all parts are had by then. We have some barrels in stock and can get common contours pretty easily.
Mcmillan stocks are 3 months wait and they're 1 hour from us.

We just bought a new lathe. This will help keep turn around times down. We learn more and more every day, and buy new equipment every month. It all helps us to serve you better, faster, and easier on everybody.

We're building 50BMGs now. Two are in the works now. One a PCR Practical 50 "Prac 50", and the other a Tac-50 for Kings Arsenal. Both on Mcmillan actions and using Lilja Navy contour barrels. Both designed to shoot the Hornady 750 Amaxs(BC 1.050 @ 2800). PCR "Prac 50s" will get Mcmillan "Big Mac" stocks and a Lilja Navy contour barrel(24-30"). We're looking at using XXX Bastard or Mcmillan muzzle brakes for them.

Re: Phoenix Custom Rifles work pics and reviews

Keith,

Double check your McM Tac 50 base. I just had one in the shop that was about as straight as a banana!

They replaced it no problem, but just a heads up!

Mark

Re: Phoenix Custom Rifles work pics and reviews

Thanks for the heads up. I have some questions about reaming the chambers on the 50s. Reamer should show up in the next week or two. Ill probably call and bug ya before I do the first one.

Re: Phoenix Custom Rifles work pics and reviews
