F T/R Competition Hornady 178 HPBT vs 175 SMK

Anyone shot these both and can compare accuracy?

I just finished off another 500ct box of 175 SMKs and I'm shopping for another lot of practice bullets. I can't justify the 60% price to shoot Bergers for practice or club matches. The Hornady's are the same $$ as SMKs so I'm thinking about giving them a try. (It works out to about $80/500 difference, which is enough for me)

JBM seems to think that the ballistics are right in between the Berger LRBT and the SMK.

I shoot the 178 AMAX and the Sierra 175 out of my Rem 700 it likes both and holds 3/8" with me behind the rifle off the Bi-pod. I shoot more of the 178 AMAX's as they are about $5.00 cheaper/100 and they shoot great and they seem to be correct ballistics

Move to the 178bthp's. Same price, same speeds, but have a pretty decent increase in BC over the SMK's.

I really like them in my gun, I can tell a difference at range with them.

I'm thinking that I'll pick up 500 and give them a whirl. As it turns out I load the same load for my 175s and 185s, can't imagine that the 178s will be much different.

Send me a PM. I have 500 Hornady 178 BTHP I don't think I'll shoot. I'll get them to your door for 10% less than anywhere online. I did open one box but don't think I ever shot or used one. That box could be 1 or 2 short, but looks full

Go with the 178 Amax. You won't see any difference from them compared to the 175 at 100 yards, but you will when you reach out to 600 and beyon. The BC from bullet-to-bullet is more consistant than that of the 175 which WILL give you less vertical stringing, fewer flyers and overall better predictable accuracy.

Just measure several 178 amax bullets from base to tip and then base to ogive and then compare those dimensions to the 175 SMK's, you will be amazed.

it depends on what your barrel likes. ive tries both 178 hornady amax amd 175 smk and my barrel rathers that amax's. i have a krieger barrel by the way
